I’m sorry if this isn’t the right circle to put this in, but considering he is advocating for us, I think “activism” is the best place to post this.
I want to thank Graham Linehan for all that he said today in speaking to the House of Lords.
This isn’t to neglect Helen Staniland, or the many other women advocating for us, but I think Glinner has done something tremendously different.
And yes, I’m going to say it, what makes him special in this case is that he is a man. An exceptional one.
He has taken this huge burden on his shoulders in fighting for our rights. I hadn’t realized how much he has lost in this fight, and given that he is unlikely to be hurt if all TRA dreams come true, he could easily have reversed course, or simply abandoned the cause. He eschewed chanting the accepted slogans to keep in good tidings with the media, even though it was financially risky, unlike for the cast of Harry Potter and other actors.
I have seen no other man of note do this.
“Super Straight” was funny, but let’s face it, the men there only noticed a problem when it became an inconvenience to them. I think if TRAs back off enough things will go back to the previous status quo.
Glinner has taken special care not to focus on how the trans ideology is nonsense in general, but to highlight how it harms women. He also brought up the harmful effects of pornography.
All other men I know of that have been willing to stand up to TRAs have only done so in a limited capacity. Joe Rogan is frank and honest but doesn’t dwell a lot on the serious harm women face. He hasn’t brought on many GC women to discuss their views that I know of. Benjamin Boyce and the guys from Triggernometry, (who I love by the way), have had such women on, but are coming at this from an overall consecutive & freedom of speech angle, not a women’s rights one.
Glinner has come with the main if not sole focus on the rights of women and keeps the focus there, making sure to elevate women’s voices, making sure they get the mike.
We have had to fight tooth and nail to be heard, but we have a lot to lose by being silent, and we have support in each other.
Being a man, Graham Linehan is more alone in this.
JKR spoke out, has not backed down, but has seemed to have gone quiet lately. No doubt she was deeply personally hurt by the actors she was close to and watched grow up to throw her under the bus. She also shared very personal pain of abuse and was met with scorn for it. I’d be too stung to fight as well. She has the money to withstand the cancellation easily though. Glinner does not, but keeps fighting for us.
So. I just wanted to give Graham Linehan a huge thank you from the bottom my heart as a woman. Your efforts will have protected innumerable women from serious harm. Because of you, many women will live their lives not knowing they’re in your debt for speaking out and helping turn the tide for their protection. You’ll never know them either. But you’ve still fought for us.
I deeply regret there aren’t more men like you, and I now sadly realize bravery is a rarer characteristic in men than I thought.
