Posted October 3, 2023 by ProfTerfMom in Activism

If you are in WI and can lend your voice, the TRAs are organizing to show up for the following public hearings:

9:00am AB 378 (College athletes) 412 East WI State Capitol

10:00am AB 377 (K-12 sports) 417 North GAR WI State Capitol

11:00am AB 465 (Medical “care”) North Hearing Room WI State Capitol

These hearings are TOMORROW. I no longer live in WI, but I hope there are some people in the Madison area who are able to represent women and girls at these events.

Dresses are cut for the female body...hips, waist, bust, female shoulders....why the hell would they stuff a man into a dress and expect women to buy it? They can’t tell what it will look like on them.

Right? Especially the particular cut that this guy is “modeling”

When he lefts up his leg to air out his balls, the worst part. Also, male designers can make similar garments DESIGNED FOR THE MALE BODY, male proportions. Men wore plenty of long garments/robes in Star Wars franchise, for example. It's NOT that hard to do. Even make such garments for men in solid color linens!

I’m fine with men in dresses that have a unisex fit (even a feminine one), I’m all for deconstructing gendered clothing norms. I actually think a lot of the idealization/fetishization TiPs have towards the opposite sex surrounds what males versus females are “allowed” to wear. Thinking about all the TiMs who secretly put on their mom’s nail polish and developed an entire complex around that—if men wearing nail polish is 100% normalized, that’s not going to happen. And the TiFs who want to go shirtless, so they get a double mastectomy…

I’m not saying men should feel comfortable walking around in lingerie and getting lip fillers, though. Misogyny and the male gaze still maintain an overwhelming presence in women’s fashion, and we should work to change that rather than just say “look, men can be degraded by feminine beauty trends, too!” But when it comes to dresses and skirts, I say normalize it.

This point was made so well by Joanna Williams in her book How Woke Won

Her basic point is that now, based mainly on crt, we have degrees of victimhood that require "validation"
Whereas a decade or so back we were only looking for this outmoded concept known as "equality"

Fuck "crt" and all who sail in her

He seems to be just a man in a dress, which is fine, but when people pointed out they’re unfollowing the brand he called them TERFs so I don’t honestly know. Apparently even if you’re a man in a dress it’s a trans issue?

Honestly, I don’t think they look good on him, but I don’t necessarily think their dresses look good on every female body either. To each their own, yet it does feel like he wears them to look uwu special cottage core fairy and not for functionality, a classical look and sustainability - but again, many women do the same.

This guy... is very annoying. I especially hate his stupid smile and thumbs ups and the fact that he has, apparently, made wearing dresses his entire personality (boorrrring). I will also say that this company made a stupid decision to repost his reel (it is not an actual paid advertisement for the brand, unless they're both breaking instagram's rules), and I also understand all of the customers/commenters who are simply fed up with all of the virtue signaling.

Buuuuutttt... I honestly don't get the logic, from a radfem perspective, of criticizing a man (who admits to being a man) in a dress. How is criticizing this not weakening our arguments?

Because, at this point, it feels like appropriation. Plus, he’s wearing a dress while insulting women. There was a time when I’d see a man in a dress and shrug and be glad he was rejecting toxic masculinity or something, but those days are long over.

When we have to deal with men in our most private places and can’t object to anything they do or any boundary they cross, seeing a man in a dress now just tells me he’s a potential boundary stomping asshole.

thesnorkmaidenJuly 3, 2023

Yes, I completely understand that emotional response, but how can we proclaim that "men and women can dress however they want and still be men/women" but be upset by this man? I'm not trying to be contrary - honestly just working this out for myself.

How is he insulting women? Because of his stupid face and twirlyness? I can buy that, I guess, but also maybe I missed something? The fact that wearing a dress is his whole thing, instead of just going about his business wearing a dress is very annoying to me. Then again, I have that gen x aversion to people acting like they're special.

sicktodeathJuly 3, 2023

Oh no, he was openly insulting women in the comment section.

But for me too, I think it’s completely acceptable to say that women can throw off the shackles of femininity and wear “masculine” clothing without having to accept men “embracing femininity”

When the oppressing group tries on the clothing of the oppressed, it just comes off as a colonist putting on tribal robes or white teenagers putting their hair in dreads.

None of that is to say men have to stay chained to the most toxic parts of masculinity, but they don’t have to wear out clothes to grow as people. They can be feminists (if we allow that any man can truly be a feminist) whilst wearing pants.

Yes, I can see that, and yes - ridiculous move by the company!

Well, to be fair, the same guy is also wearing THIS lovely outfit which is, at least, appropriate. 🤣

Did Alok design that one?

Did Alok design that one?

LOL -- definitely looks like something he'd wear!

The comments are mostly conservative, modest women who feel very betrayed.

I saw that! The comments were mostly fantastic. I'd never heard of this brand before, but it sounds like they've pissed off a lot of their loyal customers.

Another company to add to my "do not patronize" list. 👍🏻

Ugh, the handmaiden - 'I'm just so glad everybody gets to enjoy your dresses.'

Lmao at the response “so you’re a woman wanting to wear women’s clothing? Stunning and brave”
