I'm a fledgling crafter who got into crochet earlier this year after meeting a really talented female fiber artist. After studying on YouTube and practicing on my own, I came across The Woobles! Admittedly, the kits aren't the most cost effective, but I learned a lot and love the opportunity to support a company created by an Asian woman.
Yesterday, the official Woobles Instagram account announced that they would be releasing a Harry Potter collection today (November 10th). As you can imagine, the comments were filled with the usual: unkind (and untrue) comments about JKR, threats of boycotting future products, declarations that the Woobles company is now transphobic, etc.
Personally, I think releasing a Harry Potter collection in this day and age is pretty gutsy. Especially as a "younger" company with a younger demographic. It makes me curious about the founder's beliefs.
I got the Dumbledore kit for a friend that is also gender critical and getting into fiber arts. Do you have any experience with Woobles? How do you feel about Harry Potter product collaborations in 2023?
