In Search OfTerfy knitting patterns?
Posted November 17, 2024 by Froggerina in ArtsAndYarns

Happy Sunday gyns! I've inherited all of my grandma's knitting supplies since she's gone through a stroke a few years ago and can't knit anymore. She taught me how to knit as a girl and I did a bunch of garter stitch scarfs until I got bored. Recently though I've taken it up again and I've been slowly learning different stitches and patterns. I'm working on my second pair of socks on DPNs and about to cast on my first DK weight basic stripey sweater.

I've recently joined ravelry and at the moment I'm looking at free and basic patterns for things but I'd really like to try color work for the first time in some terfy designs! I'm thinking the female symbol ♀️ and also things like "woman - adult human female". Something on socks or a sweater or hat maybe. Anyone have anything or know of anything? I'm not skilled enough to try to do it myself yet. I'm willing to pay for a terfy pattern :)

Keep in mind that paying for a pattern on ravelry sadly helps out the founders. The husband is now a TIM and pretty gross at that (they had a landing page for pride week a year or two ago - that included. shall we say 'toys'.)

If you do find something you like, it's possible that the designer had an independent page - and you could pay for it there (some of them do) - rather than pay for it on the ravelry platform.

I wish I had some great pattern suggestions - but a starting place would be the suffragette colors :).

ETA: Oh! Google Illusion knitting. You might like that (there are generators online and you could make your own message/pic).

There are free patterns on Ravelry, but I wouldn't bet on TERFy ones being allowed there. I think the TIM was removed from active participation after he had a meltdown at users who complained that the hideous new website design was giving them migraines, but he and his handmaiden supporters still hold the reins, alas.

So upsetting to hear that about TIM infestation. I mean of course it had to be. I couldn't find anything terfy on ravelry anyway and figured it wouldn't be allowed as much. I meant I would be willing to pay any terf for her time to create a terfy pattern or chart. I'll look up illusion knitting!

I don't particularly like the USA suffragette colors of purple, white, and gold. I do slightly prefer the green UK color instead that I could do. I might also try to fit a ♀️♀️♀️♀️ motif around a hat or some socks for starters.

Have you had any luck looking since you posted, OP?

Wow I had never heard of illusion knitting but that’s incredible!! Didn’t even know that was possible, thank you for sharing!

I don't think you'll find anything overtly terfy on ravelry, for the reasons another commenter mentioned. if you learn basic colorwork techniques like intarsia by doing other patterns, I think there are websites to help you generate colorwork charts for your own designs. like this one https://www.stitchfiddle.com/en/chart/create/knitting

Thanks, I figured as much that'd I'd probably have to figure out how to make my own charts. I was hoping some crafty terf had maybe a pattern she created lying around to let me use.

Who wants to bet I could find a "kill all terfs" or something similar pattern though lol.

I hope someone here on Ovarit will create some terfy knitting patterns and we can go to town!
