I'm interested in learning bookbinding, but find it a bit hard knowing where to start. The tutorials I've seen so far talk about different stitches, hardcover vs paperback and such. But I find that I'm lacking info of what tools to look for and materials. Like what could I use to make a cover? What string do I need? What tools for making the holes? Etc.
If anyone can point me in the right direction or give me some answers, I would be very grateful.
From what I've seen, the chain stitch looks like an easy place to start. I also like the Coptic stitch with an open back. But I don't know how to get started.
I totally get you. Half of the time when I try reading a book written by a man, I end out feeling that same sort of weariness with the male-centric perspective... it's amazing how many men can go through life with so little consideration for women, where you can tell they've never spent time trying to see things from our perspective. Women just aren't socialized to do that - even if we're choosing to doing things that displease many men, we almost always have an awareness of men and male perspectives. It's been bothering me enough (interfering with my reading enjoyment) that I've decided I'll stop adding male authors to my reading list unless I've already read and enjoyed other books they've written... not worth my time, otherwise.
It's crazy how everything is about men... but men don't see it. They don't see the pandering and overrepresentation (they don't think anything of it when there's an almost exclusively male cast in a film... just seems normal... and they also don't notice negative overrepresentation, like the percent of rapists who are male). I was recently talking with my husband about a particular historical mass murder/rape... and he was saying he didn't know how "people" could do this and I corrected, "Males - it's not all kinds of people raping and killing... historically and today, it's almost always men. How many groups of women who gang rape people have you heard of?" He actually looked surprised, like he'd never even considered it, and then tried to say that he's sure there has to have been some group of women who gang raped someone sometime, somewhere (I'm sure, considering how many people have ever existed... but it's got to be so statistically rare that it's not worth mentioning).
I am with you on the people thing. I go out of my way to name men in these cases. When talking about 9/11 people go, "how can people be so cruel to each other"? You mean men? Because most of the cruel atrocities in the world are and have always been acted out by men. And instead of saying "there's been another mass shooting" I say "yet another man has shot up a building."
This is an example of men being the default, yet it also has a second side to it-which is, it obfuscates reality and takes blame away from men. So we never address the real issue, never name the problem. Men do this intentionally, because they become upset when women associate males with violence, and they get upset at the ones who point it out.
I actually don’t think there’s ever been a gang rape by women.
I've certainly never heard of one, but apparently over 100 billion humans have ever lived, so I can't be sure. I couldn't believe, however, that he was talking about "people" who were gang rapists in a way that suggested he really thought it was something that normally applied to all kinds of people (I could tell from the way he was talking), instead of just saying "men."
Their orgasms are more important than women's very lives, as we see from the numberof men who've got reduced sentences or walked entirely, after claiming their murder victim was a participant in consensual "rough sex".
I can’t even focus on my classes (English, Humanities, World History) because it’s all about men. Every short story, every chapter is all about moids and their so-called accomplishments that they wouldn’t have even been able to do if it weren’t for the violent oppression of women. I’m sure most of them flat-out stole their ideas from women and put their names on them.
Even women's stories are told from a male perspective. They decide what we are and "educate" us about ourselves.
In my fantasy world, there are more females than males. Way more. In my fantasy world, all people recognize that female people are more valuable, and deserving of life, than male people. In my fantasy world, females are the majority gender. Every pregnant woman would prefer to give birth to a girl. In times of stress and trouble, selective abortion is performed on male fetuses, because boys are more of a burden to a culture. They eat more, they fight more, they are harder to educate, and harder to discipline. They are meaner, and less cooperative, and they won't follow the rules as well as girls do. Plus, since they don't inherit property, and don't have any special skills, there is no reason whatsoever to allow them to exist in numbers as great as females. In my fantasy world, the leaders and deciders are all (or mostly) female, and war does not exist, because female leaders won't finance it. Neither are there any such thing as billionaires, harems, or pornography. The men who do exist are trying hard to please the more powerful females, but nobody expects them to be loyal or selfless; men in general don't seem capable of such virtue. A "good" man (one who is sexually capable, for instance, or willing to do some of the heavy lifting) is valued for these virtues, and women will rate him and promote him, but no person owns another, and there are no lifetime marriages between men and women, although some people do choose to live together for long periods of time. I secretly believe that one of the main reasons women were brutally suppressed in prehistoric times, is because men did not like the fact that women controlled the number of male babies who were allowed to grow up, and did their best to reverse the birth ratio. For men, controlling female powers of reproduction became the core, the very foundation of the patriarchy. If there were ten or more women to every man, the world would be entirely different.
Can I move to your world when you get it started?
What baffles me the most is how their dicks completely override their rational minds. I was watching a video essay on how poorly written Riverdale is because the guy directing the show is perpetually horny, and basically there's no rhyme or reason to what he's doing with the characters beyond making them look sexy, even though they're teenagers! Why are cumbrain men allowed to ruin everything?
“I detest the masculine point of view. I am bored by his heroism, virtue, and honour. I think the best these men can do is not talk about themselves anymore.” ~ Virginia Woolf
What a great quote!
If only they could.
They are born, raised and given positive reinforcement throughout their entire lives for simply being an xy.
