Share a BookFabric: The Hidden History of the Material World by Victoria Finlay
Posted March 25, 2023 by Supervagine in Books

Anyone read this one? It came out in 2022 and I just finished it. It was wonderful. I learned so much about fabric and some etymology I did not know beforehand. It is an easy but long (450 pages) read. She intertwines the tale of her travels for research on fabric (bark cloth in the Pacific Islands, quilting in America, silk in China and several others) with her relationship with her mother who ultimately dies. I was bawling at the end. Had to share because I haven't read such a well-researched and simultaneously emotionally stirring book like this in a long while.
