I wasn’t sure if this post would be better off in the feminist books circle, but it’s written by a man so I’m putting it here.
Has anyone else read this book? I’m only on chapter 3 and I gotta say my mind has already been blown several times by the information in the book.
Some facts worth noting
-the “domestic violence revolution” has saved more male lives than female lives, women are much less likely to murder their abusive male partners now than they were before domestic violence shelters began operating
-wives are less likely to be assaulted by their husbands but the incidence of single, partnered, and divorced women being assaulted has gone up
-batterer intervention programs often result in an increase in violence because women are more likely to stay with a partner who was referred to a BIP under the guise that “he can change” and so forth
-misconceptions about the “perfect victim” have been used to discriminate against women seeking shelter from abusive male partners
-men are less likely to use violence after intervention but they still abuse their wives using coercive control tactics, so incidence of violence may be decreasing but women are still entrapped in patterns of abuse that isolate and demean them
