I'm a little late to the party since the first book came out in 2015, but I just finished it and it was fantastic! It's called A Curious Beginning, by Deanna Raybourn.
It's a historical mystery novel set in Victorian England and the main character is 100% a radfem. I'm not great with reviewing books, I either like them or I don't, but I highly recommend this one. It's full of intrigue, adventure, murder, history, biology, it's got everything. And no corny romantic nonsense. Even though it's set in the late 1800s, the main character is an independent woman who knows her own mind and doesn't let men bulldoze her.
The writer is witty and Veronica, the main character, is constantly dunking on men in the classiest way lol. I can't wait to get started on the next one, but the book was so feminist and pro-woman that I had to share it here. I hope you check it out and tell me what you think!
Looks very interesting! Thanks for the recommendation!
Update: I just finished the third book and while they're enjoyable adventures, that was my least favorite. It seems like each book fails the Bechdel test worse and worse each time.
Spoilers for the first three books on this series below
I still like the first couple books but the main character is becoming more of a libfem and I'm over it
Hate romance in mystery stories. Thanks for warning!
ME TOO!! The first and second one are fine, no romance. After that, there's romance sprinkled in.
They did this with the Enola Holmes movies too. The books were great, the movies are romantic crap
I liked the movies. I mean I was disappointed with the romantic add-on, but still loved them. Especially the 2nd part.
The movies were great adventure stories,as long as you see them as completely separate from the books.
In the books, Enola is so strong and never worries about romance and bullshit, and I loved the storyline about her mom.
