The Republicans are actively planning to pass laws to take the selection of electors away from the voters and turn it over to state legislators, which they also are actively trying to achieve permanent control of through gerrymandering and voter suppression laws and illegal tactics, including outright voter intimidation. Trump got enough judges on the federal courts that the judiciary may not stop what Republicans are planning. Republicans do not want democracy. They do not want everyone to be able to vote. They have been clear about that for decades. They know they cannot win based on the popular vote.
If you have not been following all the court cases for the various election challenges and the plot to stop the certification of the Electoral vote in 2020, and the "fake electors" in Georgia, you cannot appreciate the actual threat Republicans pose to democracy. This isn't hysterical handwringing. It is what they have tried to do and what billionaires like Harlan Crow and Leonard Leo are paying millions upon millions of dollars to make happen.

And then we have shitty horrible men (see Forbes article) like Cornel West and the flaccid and weird RFK Jr. making it even more likely we get Trump again.

Let’s not forget her father is a war criminal

Oh, I haven't forgotten and I'm not a fan of her politics. It's not as though I have her on a pedestal, but I respect her willingness to speak out and risk the wrath of much of her party. Even the daughter of Dick Cheney isn't completely immune to that.

In a sensible world, someone like Trump wouldn't even be a factor in any election and someone like Liz Cheney would, but this ain't a sensible world.

Democracy is at stake full stop. Current politics in the US and the UK (as well as at EU level) are barely functioning. There needs to be a radical shake-up, and I sincerely hope it won’t take yet another world war for it to happen.

I'm not endorsing Trump here by any means (I hate him as much as I hate BIden and every other politician), but every election there's always been someone saying "electing this guy will end democracy", and it just feels like crying wolf at this point.

The difference is that Trump invited people to use violence to prevent a legitimate election from being certified. And even in the run against Clinton, he said whether he would accept results "depended". No other President or candidate has sought to overturn an election. Questioning the results by legal means (eg. by recounts) is far different from using violence & threats to ignore or overturn.the results.

No, the difference is such a huge number of people are so brainwashed into blindness that they won't even look at evidence in front of their faces if it doesn't come from their approved source, approved sources that they actually know lie to them. So they run around like headless chickens in this fantasy miasma getting themselves all lathered up and running and tumbling to dismantle our entire society because of their manufactured anxiety.

What are you talking about?

Spencer_ShayyDecember 5, 2023

You're right, that is true.

Yeah it's the same message as last time. "we have no choice" but actually we do have a choice. The plutocrats have given up on Biden and have moved on to Haley. At some point it's quite possible that she would bow to all their trans ideology and economic stipulations. In spite of the endless tolling by the Democratic politicians and their media, in actuality Trump has maybe a small lead or none at all over DeSantis or Haley. I wish someone could explain these figures from the NYTimes/Siena poll which shows "without leaners" Trump would get 44% of the votes, DeSantis would get 44% and Nikki Haley would get 46%

According to the MSM both Haley and DeSantis are way behind Trump. Evidently some democrats believe that Biden/Trump will be a win again. Probably the same democrats that think one can change their sex.

The democrats better get their congressional candidates in order even though they are as paid for by corporate America as the republican politicians. Biden won't win
