Recommendation RequestBooks for a 14 year old girl
One of my nieces needs a present. She likes witchy things, she's super depressed, maybe over medicated, and has lost interest in most of her hobbies. Her mom is a disaster with a substance abuse problem and her dad is sort of checked out from the stress. She needs new clothes because she doesn't know how to find her size, she doesn't take good care of herself...but I think that's a long term thing that can't be fixed with a Christmas present. I'd just like to show her I care.
She likes to read, though. I was a really atypical teenager in my reading tastes, plus I'm an OLD PERSON. She does seem curious about most topics but I mostly catch her reading trashy teen romances about stalking and such. Any suggestions? I'd love to get her something that's not so degrading to women.
UPDATE: I bought several things from the recommendations and plan to try to take her to lunch and let her find some more things in the new year.
Also this wound up being a pretty awesome YA reading list!
