AuthorsMale sexuality turns me off of books

I recently was recommended The Crying Lot of 49 by Thomas Pynchon. I fell in love with the prose by the second page, I found it to be beautifully written, even if I was constantly googling references from before my time.

Then came a sex scene with the main character. I put the book down and haven’t had much interest in picking it back up. It wasn’t very gratuitous, just such a clearly male idea of women’s experiences.

I’m not a prude, sex scenes written by women can be relatable, funny, and sexy at the same time. I have rarely found that from male authors.
