Great read, thank you for sharing. I love the description of politically correct literature as "sanctimony literature", that's so good and appropriate.

The artistic group I was involved with got into the trenches with this regarding LGBTQ rights and gay marriage (which has now devolved into the trans nonsense we're all familiar with). It felt exciting and righteous at the time, but even back then I noted how so many of the people I was following ranted like activists rather than like artists. I remembered making the distinction for myself and not getting involved in much online outrage because I was an artist, not an activist. The stuff that came out was all sanctimony art, just dreadful to engage with. Box ticking left and right.

I thought that was a really well-written op-ed about why authors and artists need should be careful not to mistake their role as activists--and vice versa. Very nuanced and sensitive, but also unflinching in its examination of our times and the pressures writers and publishers face, and their responsibility to get it right.
