I have earlier purposefully chosen to only read books women, and going out of my way to get knowledge of famous or less famous women writers, classics written by women and so on. At the same time I have been paying little attention to male authors, only knowing as much as you unavoidably do when you're interested in literature. It has been some time since I have been purposefully doing this, and I have instead started to choose any books I find interesting. However, I now realised when I was browsing books to potentially get for myself, that I'm anyways more or less only interested in books written by women.
I'm not saying that I have never appreciated a book written by a man, but it's unusual. I seem to generally be a lot more interested in books written by women, and it might have become enhanced by doing it purposefully for some time. In that case, I'm quite happy about it. It might also be natural, but seeing how many male authors are seen as Essential to read, and not that many women, I don't think it's coincidental. Men also manage to get in misogyny everywhere, also in books that otherwise would be quite interesting, which I simply don't like to read about (only rarely to remind myself of what we're up against).
I was wondering what thoughts others here have about this? Do you also read mostly or only women, and why? Or why not?
