Highly recommended! (This is her first novel; I look forward to her subsequent work!)
A few impressive bits:
"I'm minded to pursue the current approach, given the sensitivities in this area, and reassess once we have greater visibility over how the strategy has been received," Will spoke, baritone and authoritative. "Urrrr," Genevieve's voice grumbled, … "is your Grand Plan of Action that you will carry on as usual and see what happens?" Adele and I stifled snorts as Will stammered his way through her dressing down. p162
"You know, it's so messed up he calls us girls," she fumed … I trained for seven fucking years to be here." [They're both lawyers at a huge firm.] "Ah! … But Sheryl Sandberg told us to LEAN IN! So, I guess we must be the problem?" p163
"You're a young woman in the corporate world: some of these men see the fact of your existence as an offering." p199
"So much of what is perceived to be 'intelligence' was Kit talking in a deep, male voice, being white and educated, and packaging up abhorrent views in grandiloquent, pretentious language. Men like Kit had been groomed from birth to speak the vernacular of success." p316
That poor mother and daughter. I can’t believe this happened less than an hour from my hometown and I never even heard about it. My heart breaks for their family and friends. I hope their killer is in an unmarked grave far away from wherever they’re buried.
Whoever was responsible for his burial arrangements should have cremated him then flush him down the toilet.
As destructive as the male obsession with sex can be, I think their obsession with pride may be even worse, and the cause of more violence.
how 3 people need an 11 bedroom home is beyond me. There were so many points in time they could have lived more modestly, but he'd rather do this unspeakable act of familicide.
I know a couple who are currently living in a 6 bedroom rented mansion even though they use only one of the bedrooms. Meanwhile their 20yo son has to work in construction during the summer so he can pay for his groceries and uni during the year (this is in Europe, so it's not that expensive) because they "can't afford it"
yeah, affordance is a crazy concept. It's really a lot about the person's priorities.

Yes, I agree. Some of the most miserable people I've known have been incredibly wealthy. I believe more and more in 'moderation in all things,' including money.
That said, I too have found that name brand cream cheese is much better than the generic!
I recently discovered that the name brand cream cheese is better too! What is it I wonder? Are they using different cultures?
Ooh, have you ever made your own? I don't have the energy to do it often, but it's gorgeous, and it's nice to have control over fat content and additives. Here's a recipe if you're interested.
The best thing about wealth is not having to worry about money, and successful people who overspend baffle me.
Reading the comments of that article and it's post after post about people living above their means and you have to scroll down pretty fast before anyone talks about the annihilation part, and even then to just feel bad for the daughter.
Men have a very strange cognitive blindness to the violence of other men. They've brainwashed themselves into not even thinking about it and not seeing it as a male problem. I think this actually scares me more.
