Link button acting weird
Posted August 16, 2023 by WatcherattheGates in Bugs

Just a couple of days ago, the link button has been acting wonky for me. I highlight some text I want to link, and in the past, I'd press the link button and a small window would pop up for me to paste in the link, and then the html for the link would pop up in the text box.

For the last couple of days, when I highlight the text I want to have a link for, no small window pops up at all. Then when I post the post, sometimes I can go back in and edit the post and the pop-up box will appear (this is when the highlighted text is just text). Other times when I post, I see the links are active even though I didn't actually paste in anything as a link (this happens when the highlighted text is actually a URL).

Can anyone shed some light on this issue? Is anyone else experiencing this?

I've experienced this, as well.

I wonder if this is a browser issue not this website. If i highlight text Opera pushes me to use their AI service on it. Many browser extensions changes what happens when you highlight text and either hoover the mouse or right click it.

Could be, but I've used this browser (Brave) for literally years with Ovarit with no problems. Unless Brave has changed something.

Thank you for the bug report.

Just now when I tried it (in Firefox), it took two clicks on the link button to make the little window come up, which is odd. I'll add that bug to our list.

If you post something that looks enough like a link it will get highlighted and made active even though you didn't use the link tool.

You always have the option of typing out the text and link instead of using the tool. Put the text you want to have a link for in square brackets followed by the link itself in parentheses, like this:

That is very helpful--thank you!
