Resolvedmessages disappearing from sent mail
Posted October 24, 2020 by endthewoo in Bugs

Messages seem to be disappearing from my "sent messages" folder. Two today - no record of them, I think it has happened randomly before as well.

One was the first message in a chain sent by myself, then another which was a reply.

If the recipient deletes it does it go from my sent folder as well ?

Holy shit, what a Queen. I checked the list of editors who have made the most edits to wiki articles and she comes in at number 1755 with 54,832 edits. 🤯

Not sure she'll ever see this, but if she does: Athaenara, you are amazing and I hope I can one day show as much courage as you've just exhibited in walking away from a project that was such a big part of your life because the reality of being a woman is something worth defending.

Also, to my feminist pod/vidcasters out there: please put an invite out to interview her. I'd love to hear more about her and the reasons for her decision, assuming she's willing.

puppy_catOctober 11, 2022

The TiM uses "transmisogynist" in his reply to describe this woman. It's truly one of the most idiotic words that TiMs have created for themselves. Misogyny... Against males who LARP as women. Yep. Fuck right off

wishforsanityOctober 11, 2022

I cringe every time a post starts with, "As a trans woman, I think blah blah blah".

Nediljka_OrwellOctober 11, 2022

They remind me of Cartman: "Respect ma ahthori tah!!!!!"

Medusa91October 11, 2022

As soon as I read that I skip right over them. Not interested in your misogynistic beliefs sir

notapatsyOctober 11, 2022

I just stop reading.

[Deleted]October 11, 2022

[Comment deleted]

The term was invented by "Julia" Serano and the first example he gives is men getting laughed at:

When a trans person is ridiculed or dismissed not merely for failing to live up to gender norms, but for their expressions of femaleness or femininity, they become the victims of a specific form of discrimination: trans-misogyny. When the majority of jokes made at the expense of trans people center on “men wearing dresses” or “men who want their penises cut off,” that is not transphobia—it is trans-misogyny.

StayoffmyTERFOctober 11, 2022

“Men are afraid women will laugh at them. Women are afraid men will kill them.”

FutureBreedMachineOctober 11, 2022

There is so much wrong with just this one lil paragraph, I can't even begin to start dissecting it. What a misogynistic moron

OneStarWolfOctober 11, 2022

😂

TheDirtyYumejoOctober 11, 2022

And of course the guys username is LilianaUWU. Couldn't be any subtler there buddy

Committing_TerveryOctober 11, 2022(Edited October 11, 2022)

UWU

Of course.

Cringeworthy.

And they all want to act/talk like how they think little girls behave/talk. Instead of being cute, they’re just creepy.

yesisaiditxxOctober 11, 2022

UWU

I used to dread the day I was “too old” to get the full context of slang and internet stuff like this…and now seeing what I see out there I’m ok with it.

(Is this still me just going “get off my lawn” mode? Or is a lot of the current stuff like this indeed embarrassing?)

Committing_TerveryOctober 12, 2022(Edited October 13, 2022)

I’m early 30s and feel the same way. I grew up with internet slang and acronyms and “:)” AOL instant messenger and smart phones etc... and I didn’t even know/see “UwU/UWU/uwu” until discovering r/actuallesbians (TIMs) and peaking trans.

These TIMs need to get off our lawns!! 😂

danaseilhanOctober 12, 2022

I am pretty sure "uwu" is supposed to be an emoji, a Japanese emoticon, depicting some sort of facial expression.

[checks]

Yep. I wouldn't have even thought of that had I not seen a whole lot of cute animals in things like hamster cartoons. (My daughter used to love Hamtaro.)

Committing_TerveryOctober 12, 2022(Edited October 12, 2022)

Kaomoji, yes. Kao in Japanese means “face,” and moji is “character/symbol.” Emoji is “picture symbol” (e is “picture”).

Other examples of kaomoji:

ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ

ฅ(^ω^ฅ)

(๑>◡<๑)

Emoji are these: 👁💜 ♀, 👁💜🧙‍♀️, 👭👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩👩‍❤️‍👩👑

OneStarWolfOctober 11, 2022

She’s brave for calling out the tech TiM bros invasion of women’s spaces. The worst part is these big corps twist these men taking women’s spaces as being a diversity+ hire and count them as “women”. It actually just oppressing us and marginalizing women even further in the tech fields. Very tiresome.

niffinOctober 11, 2022

Indeed, this drives me nuts too. Even worse, even when they have legal documentation of sex, Google uses an alternative survey called Self-ID -- where employees can put themselves into whatever buckets they choose -- to count and report diversity statistics. They can literally be as diverse as they "feel". 🤮

jenmrutledgeNovember 27, 2022

And our vital statistics are now being changed...A man can go down to the social security office and change his sex to female...

FemmeEtalOctober 12, 2022

Wow, way to defeat the entire purpose of the survey? These companies make me sick, and there are so few women present in them already to stand up to this garbage.

GenderHereticOctober 11, 2022

And they also deleted her original post from the page history, something that normally only is done for things like doxxing or blatant copyright violations.

They just love erasing and altering history, don't they?

hypatiaOctober 11, 2022

It's ok when THEY do it, don't you see?

TERVENCORRUPTOR9000October 11, 2022(Edited October 11, 2022)

Damn, what a mic drop! And what a strange community they are, I hope she's enjoying a drink right now instead of thanklessly editing online vandalism while surrounded by terminally online goblins.

[Deleted]October 11, 2022

Your wording is fucking hilarious lmao.

Medusa91October 11, 2022

A standing ovation for Athaenara

FiliaTertiaOctober 11, 2022

The Ovarit ovation!

chrysthefeministOctober 11, 2022

Yay! It's no Bronx cheer!

friedparataOctober 12, 2022

I honestly read that as "standing ovulation" lol

WholeGrainOctober 11, 2022

I am sure we could welcome her here. Diligent women like that who know wiki tech aren't all that common.

FeministunderyrbedOctober 11, 2022

I have always given small amounts to Wikipedia when they come begging, because I do use Wikipedia and I want it to continue being there, but I’m going to take a break and next time they ask I will tell them why.

PerenelleFlamelOctober 11, 2022

I stopped donating to wikipedia when it became apparent they were no longer a neutral source of information. It's a shame, because there is so much awesome about it.

TortoisemouseOctober 11, 2022

Exactly the same here. I used to donate. Then I peaked and realised how biased many pages are against women and how insidious the editing policies are against women.

Lilith-FairOctober 11, 2022

Good thing you stopped. Look here where Wikipedia's donations actually goes:

womeninloveOctober 11, 2022

I can't believe they have the nerve to make those pathetic pop-up pleas when so little is going to the running of the actual site.

FeministunderyrbedOctober 11, 2022

Hmm, looks like they’re not hurting for my $10.

[Deleted]October 11, 2022

Thanks for this eye-opening!

HalfMentalAlchemistOctober 11, 2022

This deserves its own post!

Nediljka_OrwellOctober 11, 2022

Another case of the dangers and drawbacks of monopolies. Eventually they become purely extractive and control the market.

FeministunderyrbedOctober 11, 2022

Yes. There’s no competition here. Economists might call this a natural monopoly, where the expense of building a competing data source is prohibitive so regulation is required to prevent monopolistic behavior. I’m not sure.

Nediljka_OrwellOctober 11, 2022

There's nothing natural about it when you need to grovel and sell your soul to multiple venture capitalists to get them to invest big bucks in your competitive idea so you can get it off the ground. Nearly all markets are gatekept by and for the people who benefit the most. Granted, they get milked and scammed all the time. But the days of starting anything from scratch is severely limited by gov, and their pals in the Investor Class. Everything has been so inflated, only the wealthy can play. So much for the American Dream. It's been hijacked. We're sleepwalking into neofeudalism. Arguably it's already here.

Medusa91October 11, 2022

Do I want to learn about neofuedalism or is it going to make me doomscroll the rest of the day?

FeministunderyrbedOctober 11, 2022

“Natural monopoly” is economics jargon for an industry where the usual government action to make the market freer and promote competition is not enough because barriers to entry are so high. But you’re right, in tech there are so many monopolistic shenanigans, natural and unnatural, that the distinction hardly matters.

I don’t look forward to neofeudalism either. I do my part by not consuming a lot of the worst of tech: Amazon, ride and delivery apps. I also take some comfort in the fact that this badass is now at the top of the Federal Trade Commission. But yeah, it’s an uphill battle.

danaseilhanOctober 12, 2022

FYI one of those delivery apps is keeping a roof over my head right now.

I've been looking for a job off and on for most of a year. Mostly I get no bites. The few bites I get are inappropriate for me for various reasons. For all the screaming employers do of "WE'RE HIRING!!!11!1!one!", they're still pretty selective, much to my sorrow. But money has to come from somewhere. So I go out there and get it.

They don't pay by the hour, either. Well, GoPuff might, if you schedule delivery blocks. You have to be actually at the site to schedule the blocks and they get snapped up quick, though. And they're the one outlier I know of.

Temp agencies are getting into the gig game, but they don't understand it, and they're up to the same old BS they've always been. "Oh hey, we just found Job A we thought you might like" and you call them back in five minutes and they go "Oh hey, orientation for Job B is next week and it's 12 hours a day four days a week and you have to drive 45 minutes in one direction for the commute and you won't know whether you get a shift til you get there... interested?" I'm so over it.

So yeah, whatever about "neo-feudalism," I'm not a TRA on GoFundMe and I gotta eat.

Nediljka_OrwellOctober 11, 2022

Yeah, I got that. "Show me the Free Market" is my response, LOL. I don't think it has ever existed in its rightful form. Regulation is a double edged sword, and like everything else, held captive by Big Money these days. I'm always harassing my local gov officials about removing the barriers to small biz creation in my state. Our economy is on life support. The regulations (and taxes) for the Little Guy are stifling. But they're designed to be that way. Have a good tomato sauce recipe that you'd like to jar and sell? Well, first ya need a food handling safety course certificate (or two) from these outfits (run by someone's cousin). Then there's the permits and licenses. Then you need a commercial kitchen. That must have XYZ to meet standards. Even if you don't need XYZ for small batch processing. On and on it goes. Barrier after barrier. Sure, food production needs to "be safe". (Don't get me going on the ironies there, LOL.) But gov lets the Big Guys write their rules and they naturally compose them to keep the Little Guy from getting even a toehold in their markets. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Big Biz gets tax breaks for McJobs and the Little Guy gets told to leap through the flaming hoops. And to pick up the tab for low wage worker's health and other benes that their Biz Biz employers can't possibly provide... It makes me nuts.

I'm unfamiliar with Ms. Badass there. I'll check her out, thanks~

FeministunderyrbedOctober 11, 2022

Corruption—pardon me, regulatory capture—doesn’t mean we should throw all regulation out the window, but it’s not a good look.

Ironically, the best source of information on Lina Khan, if you haven’t been following her career in the news over the past several years, is Wikipedia. She was a star law student and now she’s in government. It usually doesn’t work that fast.

Nediljka_OrwellOctober 11, 2022

Regulation, like everything else gov touches, determines winners and losers. We're still under the impression that bigger is best. And knows best. And the Little Guy's needs don't matter.

hypatiaOctober 11, 2022

That is what success looks like to a monopoly.

jadegreenOctober 11, 2022

One of the founders of wiki has been screaming into the void for the last decade about how fucked up the site became. Larry Sanger. He has some really interesting writing if you're interested to learn more about wiki's "neutrality" and weird-ass sexual content policies.

FeministunderyrbedOctober 12, 2022

weird-ass sexual content policies

Mmm, let me guess.

jadegreenOctober 12, 2022

He was pushing for an option to do a sort of opt-in filter for Wikipedia - similar to Google SafeSearch - so people wouldn't encounter surprise obscene images. His blog has recently been taken down, not sure if by him or censored, but here is a link to some HackerNews comments of Sanger's article from a bunch of men that think porn should be easily accessible to children: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4046243

FeministunderyrbedOctober 12, 2022

Lol. Well, I looked him up. The top page of results is Wikipedia in different languages, then links to his blog which says just “This account is suspended”. That’s one way to drum up interest in your ideas!

jadegreenOctober 12, 2022

https://unherd.com/thepost/wikipedia-co-founder-i-no-longer-trust-the-website-i-created/

Weird, his blog was up just a month ago - I guess his hosting provider didn't like what he had to say! I guess I have a mystery to dig into tonight.

SulphuricMirrorOctober 12, 2022

I hope you found what he wrote about, it sounds interesting.

hypatiaOctober 11, 2022

I really hope she finds her way here, somehow. What a queen.

MonstrousRegimentOctober 11, 2022

All hail Athaenara!

NoDayForADoOctober 11, 2022

I was reading the entry on pin-up girl recently and thinking holy shit, wikipedia has been captured. They have attempted to degenderfy the term and they are painting it with so broad a brush as to remove all historical context and definitition. It's seriously bizarre. For all the "facts don't care about your feelings!" lines these people like to push, it seems they only time historical correctness matters is if it upsets conservatives. Otherwise, anything goes!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pin-up_model

trilobyteOctober 11, 2022

That is bizarre

[Deleted]October 11, 2022

The day enough of us women snap and start going ham on all this shit simultaneously, the sooner this shit will end.

Salute to you badass queen. You got it all off your chest and went out with a bang. You know they're all trembling under their plastic wigs.

[Deleted]October 11, 2022

Some argued that her account must have been hijacked

Hahahaha that's exactly what was said about me when I came out as GC. These people cannot fathom that others still have integrity.

Awesome knowing this treatment is widespread /s

unknownfemaleOctober 12, 2022(Edited October 12, 2022)

It's absolutely disgusting that they are referring to her comments as hate speech. All she said is that women (naturally born) should be represented on Wikipedia - it's absolutely vile that companies need to follow the "trans" protocol now or otherwise they have to face a shit storm. If they are so needy for spaces - what about naturally born women's spaces? We should be protected too. But men (and men pretending to be women) don't care about that

Nediljka_OrwellOctober 11, 2022

All raise the three finger salute to the sky in gratitude, respect and grief. Another worthy contestant in the Gender Games has fallen.

I'm so glad I stopped donating to Wikipedia a few years ago. They're completely corrupted over there.

I hope someone is archiving all wp bans for this sort of thing

NecessarySceneOctober 11, 2022

Was there some extra context here? The comment would seem a bit out of the blue on its own.

I'm guessing there was some gushing about having more women editors that pissed her off?

jenmrutledgeNovember 27, 2022

OMG! I cannot believe someone is writing this! Hi, I am Jen and sitting here in Midtown, Manhattan and I was BANNED FOR LIFE from making edits to Wiki! My ONLY edits were: 1) I was crossed out an unverified comment about art work from the early "riot grrl" movement...Actually, it *was *verified, but the writer sourced himself! This guy, from Chicago- who was born 2 years before the riot grrrl movement was mounting in Olympia, WA, wrote a book about queer art and he claims that these feminist punk rockers invited so-called "trans women" to early meetings and put their art work in their weekly art publishings! OMG! I tried contacting Bikini Kill directly, but I received no response, but I think that is bogus and BS- completely! There is no way...Anyway, I just crossed it out and they allowed it to remain...2) I referred to this celebrity professor cyclist "trans identified male" was on Trevor Noah and was definitely misogynistic and he has several names and has referred openly on different websites with his so-called "deadname" and I wrote his deadname on his Wiki page and 3) I crossed out so-called "gender identity" as being a part of in second wave feminism. So, I was told I was BANNED FOR LIFE and could never make another Wiki edit again...

After sitting back and thinking about it all, I started thinking about Julian Assange and how he was holed-up in the Ecuadorian embassy for years, trying to evade rape charges (with an underage girl!) that we verifiable by at least 8 witnesses- a case which fell apart over the years and therefore could not be tried a decade later- so the charges were dropped!

This was also the guy who very purposefully came out against Hillary Clinton and who, "in the name of liberty," published all of the emails and other documents- conveniently right before the election and was even documented as making a point to not publish anything about Trump...I saw a video where he admitted wanting to skew the election...IDK if he was working with Russia or Trump or both, but he made it very clear which side he was on...This guy mettled, successfully, in a US election.

And this is the guy who has the largest bank/source of information in the world, where everyone goes for everything...or at least starts. And it's run by a rapist who did not want a woman running the free world...And clearly, Wiki remains misogynistic...

I feel certain that we need an alternate source. It has to be a matriarchial source/bank of reality...For people to go for the real version of everything...and it has to be 100% uncensored. I know that the truth transcends everything and will always remain, but they're powerful enough to make history, obviously. We have to do something so revolutionary- that no one has thought of it yet bc we are all so immersed in a patriarchial way of thinking...

I am broke and isolated and need to bump these ideas off other thinkers so we can really do something...I am in Midtown Manhattan and am here- ready to work. Ideas?

Thanks for posting this! I hope to hear from any and everyone! Please contact me directly at 206-503-0471 and let's figure out what to do next! We have got to be creative! Best! jen

Not sure I trust a Chinese site, either.

[Deleted]October 11, 2022

So dumb. Even if they are considered women now, they weren't before. So how tf would this ever make any sense?!

Reminds me of a post here a while ago about a TIM trying to mansplain getting little girls into STEM.
