MP Rosie Duffield bullied into locking Twitter account.
Posted August 1, 2020 by PandorasAquarium in Cancelled

Rosie Duffield is a Labour MP in the UK. She's done fantastic work in Parliament and her Domestic Violence abuse and Coercive Control speech was truly fantastic.

She was found to have liked a Tweet by Peirs Morgan who questioned a report about 'cervix havers' and cervical screening, stating that it shouldn't it be 'Women'

Rosie has endured a vicious pile-on by the Wokerati and the Labour LGBT+ group have condemned her for 'Transphobia' and are calling on the leadership to investigate. Others are calling for her suspension from the party

Rosie in Twitter backlash

Rosie is a damn good MP and a fantastic voice for women and girls. This is just awful.

Well Twitter, it's been a blast. But like many others, I'm taking a break from social media for a bit. No doubt the misogyny, the racism and the political extremisms will all still be here when I return... (If you're a constituent, please follow my work on my Facebook page).

The last few days have been difficult and distressing for myself and my fantastic team of staff. I am, and always have been, completely supportive of trans rights. I have spent decades campaigning for equality and supporting LGBT+ rights. We need to bring together women’s and trans groups to ensure we progress and protect hard won rights both through the law, and culturally. This conversation has been too toxic and ruled by bad faith actors for far too long. The issues have been hijacked by those at either extreme of the political spectrum, and used on social media as a tool to further personal agendas. I will not accept different groups of women being pitted against each other and I know that we can work together towards language that accommodates everyone. I understand how choice of language is important in this debate and acknowledge that carelessness can cause offence - I am sorry for any offence my own recent use of language on this issue may have caused. I have learnt from this and will continue to do so - it is part of our journey as people to listen and learn from groups outside our own lived experience. It is also worth noting that social media is never the place for nuanced policy discussion and that without intelligent, grown-up and respectful discussion, nothing positive can be achieved. Health professionals and LGBT+ communities are trying to promote awareness campaigns within the medical profession about vital health screening. We know that most women, some trans men and some non-binary people need to access cervical screening, and it's crucial that we must be able to communicate to each of these groups to build awareness. I am completely committed to this and never meant for anything said or shared to risk the good progress made in these public health arenas. I have lived a lifetime fighting for equality and fundamental rights for women - from basic equal pay to maternity rights and an end to violence against women and girls. I have supported many transgender friends and groups in their excellent campaigns for equality and full recognition within the law. Recent accusations of being transphobic have hurt me greatly; it has upset many people I love and care for. The Labour Party is the Party of equality and will always seek to make our country a more equal place for all of its citizens. I am proud to be a Labour MP who has voted for greater equality for LGBT+ individuals, unlike my Conservative predecessor who famously campaigned against equal marriage. I made my first ever public speech as an MP in 2017 at a Pride event and the warm welcome I received showed that equal rights for all are as important to most people in my constituency, as they have always been to me. I think we’d all benefit from a proper debate where voices and opinions are respected, and where kindness, tolerance and learning is at the heart of our movement.
