Circle dedicated to helping women gain financial independence, build wealth, advice on buying a car vs leasing, buying a home, etc.
I am super I into this! Money was such a taboo subject growing up. And society does better when women are in control of money. We need to learn and teach each other.
I’d call it just “finance” as many of us are poor and calling it “wealth” makes it sound like it’s not for everyone.
I started from pretty much zero. Building wealth isn't just for "rich" people, or for people who make a lot of money.
u/Freyja and I were talking about this the other day!
I am willing to help mod as well, see my post on the matter here.
Yes, brilliant post. I never knew there were so many women who had no clue about their finances. I am totally self taught and I wish I had learned much earlier in life.
Would love this. I really need to have a strategy, which currently I do not have except that I think stocks are overvalued... Which seems to be hurting more than helping ATM.
Can't believe I missed your earlier post. I'm glad you're on Ovarit! I think this is absolutely on point. Understanding how money works and being in control of one's finances is so crucial to Feminism. It's a damn good feeling when emergencies come up and one is able to just handle them. It's a confidence boost! I'd love to learn more. I'd love to finally get over that queasy feeling that I still get whenever I have to review my finances:)
bump, I already have tons of ideas for posts (since it's a new year and all).
I want this circle, too! I am stuck going to reddit on occasion since it has circles on topics like this that I legitimately find helpful. I hope Ovarit grows enough this year with enough topics like this that I can leave reddit for good!
If this turns into a circle, I would love to ask women who make $10,000 + a month in their own business about taxes. Who does their own taxes, who hired an accountant, how much do you pay your accountant? Do you claim all your cash?
I perso ally think any business owner should have an accountant, but in the example you provide such a person may also be in need of a bookkeeper, or at least a bookkeeping system of some form. The accountant should be able to provide advice on strategies to minimize tax liability. I would also be curious as to the fees charged by such an accountant.
I really hope this circle exists one day. I think as women we need to increase our confidence with financial matters. I would love advice from those of you who are more knowledgeable.
I look on the UK personal finance subreddit to try and get answers but it is largely irrelevant to me. Very male focused, a lot of the posters there work in tech-y type jobs, high wages. Not relevant for a low earner such as myself.
This is good feedback and if the circle ever comes to fruition I hope we can get some mods/contributors from many different areas.
I want to second this! Tips for saving, investing, budget making, understanding financial products, etc. With a new year right around the corner, I'd love to see this- esp. for younger women or women financially tied to craptastic partners who could use some help/ hope.
