I’d love to have an animals circle or a pets circle posting pets or animals we saw (wildlife) because whilst I still love being political, I sometimes want to get away from all the bad stuff in the news and I like to focus on my pets instead. In my idea, women would post pics of their pets or cute social media animals or wildlife, and it’d be a space to be optimistic. I think it would be cool
Love this. I have dreams of making all of my clothing myself one day, but right now I have young kids and could never find the time.
Be warned. Our fabric stores are filled with low quality cloth. I live in a popular Canadian city with several fabric stores. I can’t find cotton jersey. And I won’t spend money on polyester jersey. Most of the garment fabric is either polyester or a polyester blend. You’ll only find 100% cotton in the quilting fabric (and its quality has gone downhill since the 2000s). So it’s not a good substitute for garment fabric.
I’ve resigned myself to waiting for men’s extra large 100% cotton T-shirts to go on sale to resew them into a shirt that actually fits me. The fabric is thicker and they have a crew neck instead of a V-neck.
Oh, I know.
I sew clothing for my kids, so I've already learned that the brick and mortar stores are terrible. Not only is their fabric garbage, the prices are insane. I buy all my fabric online.
It is still very hard to find 100% natural anything. Most cotton jerseys, even "organic" still have 5% lycra or similar microplastic.
Huh. According to this, pretty much all the clothes I own are bad quality. (Overlocked edges? Everywhere! I do look for natural fibres, but ... honestly, I am not sure I could afford anything that's high quality according to this video. I was only somewhat aware that there's other things you could do with edges.)
i’d always known that places like H&M or Forever 21 had terrible quality clothing but as soon as i got a Real Job™️ after college and started shopping for business clothes i realized how bad the quality of more expensive brands are too.
i bought a Calvin Klein brand dress for work at nordstrom rack back in August and by January the seam at the bottom came completely undone so I had to sew it back on. And all my Ann Taylor dresses have fucked up stitching if you look closely
i only shop in the clearance section of the outlet stores so its not like im paying too much, but the original prices of these items were well over $100, for this kind of quality?
If you are shopping at any outlet store, name brands will have lines of lower quality clothes specifically for the outlet stores. Although to be frank I'll browse the fill price stores and be underwhelmed by the quality of most of the clothing there, totally not worth the price.
