Circle for music!!
Posted November 4, 2020 by dominique in Circles

A circle where we could share music that is or isn't radfem related? Also a kpop specific circle?? For those of us who want to find like-minded kpop stans :D

Also, I have a discord for radfem kpop stans for anybody interested ✨

Such a great statement. The reddit ban could have been the best thing to happen to us, in a way. I know it might not feel like that during the hands-on development stage but this space has so much potential to be the platform we need to develop the kind of feminist analysis that we need to confront all the horrors of 2020's patriarchy. Especially now that we're free of following a lot of pointless rules and (hopefully) not spending all our moderating time deleting anime memes from idiotic bored teens.

Ovarit is a great name for many reasons, but not least it suggests the boundless potential for female creativity. Here's to the radfem resurgence!

Now we can stop giving Reddit views/ad revenue

DontDoxxMeJuly 25, 2020

This is flat out fantastic. What you’ve done in the space of a few short weeks is utterly remarkable. I’m in awe of you all.

We actually fight for us, not fight for men to claim to be us. Radfems will change the world for the better; we lift up our sisters and try to break the chains that lay heavy on our necks, chains placed there by men, and for men.

Transcultists need those chains there so they can pretend to feel like us. They desire that heavy yoke so they can opt in to our Global Oppression. Rich white males thinking they oppressed is some twisted perversion of reality. They have never and will never fight for us, only against us. Men are men after all.

Thank you so much to the tech team and all those that made this space for us. So grateful.

LesJuly 25, 2020

Thank you so, so much to every single woman who made Ovarit possible. I was beginning to feel hopeless during the great migration to Saidit, but now I feel like we truly have a home to call our own. Thank you for rising from the ashes so spectacularly.

bicycling_elephantJuly 25, 2020

Thank you so much for all your hard work! It makes me so happy to see you all here again.

SqueakyBallJuly 26, 2020

It's fantastic to be here and to see so many familiar names here. Thanks to all who put in the hard work to make this possible.

bicycling_elephantJuly 26, 2020

Hi Squeaky! Nice to see you here.

onlygreyJuly 25, 2020

Thank you for your hard work! Now we can be fully independent from men that forbid us to speak the truth.

beereaditJuly 25, 2020

I am so grateful to you for making this dream a reality, you all have truly outdone yourselves and brought us a place that we can call home. Keep up the good work!!

somegenerichandleJuly 26, 2020

I'm so impressed. In about a month's time, the team managed to launched a functional site. Thank you, girl_undone, for a concise and well written explanation... and wonderful quotes!

MoonpriestessJuly 25, 2020

This is so wonderful, thank you!!

Ever since r***** banned r/gendercritical, I've been waiting for this platform. Full of a silent fury. I checked the twitter account every day, hoping to find a new home. Spinster helped immensely. I'm looking forward to seeing this community thrive. For the sisterhood.

UnicornJuly 25, 2020

Thank you for creating this. :)

Oh boy, I love the rules of this site. No more surprise pornography. I'm psyched about the whole thing!! Thank you.

OwlJuly 28, 2020

I am blown away by how quickly you pulled this awesome site together! Thrilled to see it and support it and will up my donations to the groups you've mentioned. xx

ThisRealityJuly 25, 2020

Hurray! Thanks to everyone who's made this happen.

EvileineJuly 26, 2020

Thank you so much! Hey, how can we get codes to invite users? I'd like to bring my wife and my bestie onboard.

LesJuly 26, 2020

We’re “in beta” right now and will be requiring invite codes to register until we exit our beta. We’ll be distributing codes increasingly over the week, and users will be able to create codes once they accumulate enough votes (the exact number required might drop over time).

Looks like the more we post and get upvoted by other users the closer we get to earning invites. It's probably tied to the level that's displayed on our profiles (the page you get when you click on someone's username).

womenopausalJuly 28, 2020

Can confirm I got 3 invites when I hit level 7. (But none since).

lavenderamethystJuly 26, 2020

Grateful for you! All of you 💙

crlodyJuly 29, 2020

I'm so happy right now. There has been a hole in my heart since the reddit bans and now it feels full again. thank you and everyone for working on this and getting it up and running so quickly. I am going to try to repost a lot of what's left of my subreddits here :)

MoireJuly 25, 2020

Bless you for all the hard work!

RawSiennaJuly 29, 2020

Thank you all so much for your hard work! Much ❤️

YoPerreoSolaJuly 27, 2020

Thank you, thank you, thank you. The reddit ban has made us stronger and louder than ever. It got me to break my silence on my personal social media, which has since peaked a handful of people (and also lost me a handful of friends). It also got me to connect with my local rad fem group. There is a silver lining :)

histrelJuly 27, 2020

Thank you for this, I was a member of r/GenderCritical but rarely (if ever) posted as it was too public a place. It seems that the majority of my friends would not appreciate my GC views, in fact I think if they knew they would call me a terf and block me no matter how many years we'd been friends. It will be good to have a place to discuss and learn freely, without fear.

marmaladestripes725July 30, 2020

Oh yeah, most of my friends are casual “TWAW” types, but I know a few TRAs peripherally. It’s nice to have a place where I don’t have to worry about getting doxxed.

grumpyjewishfeministAugust 2, 2020

I think that most of us used an alt because of this.

Thank you all so much for building this space. If there’s anything WE can do to give back to you all, please let us know.

enessJuly 27, 2020

Thank you for this! Seeing some familiar names, glad to be back

HollyhockJuly 29, 2020

Thank you!!! So happy to be back. I found GC on reddit when I was googling 'should trans women play sports with women," and I was so relieved to find it and realize I really WAS still a feminist, and I was not alone. I hope this site can grow and other women can find it w/ a simple google search.

wilmasJuly 30, 2020

I am so relieved that the women who created this site did. I used to just lurk in r/gendercritical but after the ban was so pissed I created a spinster account and a discord to try to rediscover this community. I plan on being more active because of the ban, I wonder how many others are like me and used to lurk but are now active.

TrueFireJuly 31, 2020

Same here. I was a lurker before. JKR speaking out plus the bans, and I now feel compelled to no longer be a silent observer.

StoneSoupAugust 2, 2020

I used to lurk in r/gendercritical. I lurked for years! I am here from Spinster (and also as a 4W patron), but GC played a huge part in clarifying and transforming my views, so thanks to everyone from there for doing that. I am here to support women's social media. I think it is wonderful and inspirational to see what women can achieve, especially in such a short space of time. Having control of our own spaces is crucial to our success. Thank you everyone who has created Ovarit.

[Deleted]July 29, 2020

This looks great. Thank you for all the hard work and the invite!

BreadJuly 29, 2020

Thank you all for your hard work! I’ve miss gc so much, it was really one of the few spaces on reddit where I could actually speak about issues impacting women and girls.

Binah17July 29, 2020

Thanks for all you ladies hard work!

[Deleted]July 29, 2020

This is so exciting! Very grateful and proud of this strong community. I do think that reddit banning us will ultimately be a good thing. I've been more outspoken in my everyday life about GC and how problematic the current trans activism is. People are waking up! And we're all a part of it. So happy to be here!

MojoJuly 29, 2020

Brilliant work ladies! Together we stand!

hellamomzillaJuly 29, 2020

Oh, happy day! Calloo callay!

[Deleted]July 30, 2020

So excited to be here! Thank you for giving us this space. If anything, the good thing about leaving Reddit is that now women have more truly women's online communities to join.

[Deleted]July 29, 2020(Edited July 29, 2020)

Thrilled to be here and thank you so much for this space!

MuggleJuly 29, 2020

I am very excited to be here and so grateful to the team that has made this site a possibility. I've enjoyed my time on Spinster but really missed the conversations that happened on GC and the women there.

lucreciaJuly 29, 2020

Thank you all! This is a historic moment for women all over the world. :) I'm looking forward to joining in the conversation and helping out where I can (I used to only lurk because I didn't want to make a reddit account; now I don't have to!). I agree with everyone who says this is a blessing in disguise; we'll end up more self-sufficient and independent because of it, and we're already seeing a feminist software revolution! :D So hey, if nothing else, it's an interesting time to be alive...

Again, thanks! :)

MadSeaJuly 27, 2020

Thank you all for working so hard to rebuild! I am so thrilled to be back as that loss was very hard to take. All they did was piss us off even more though.

JLeGuinJuly 27, 2020

Thank you!

GetinloserJuly 30, 2020

I will never cease to be amazed by what women can accomplish by ourselves when we're free to do so. What your team has done in such a short amount of time is downright amazing and I agree with the view that this ban has been a blessing in disguise. I can't wait to see Ovarit grow and take its rightful place. Here's to the next chapter!

[Deleted]July 30, 2020

I’m so happy I could cry. I have a great feeling about this. I finally deleted my reddit account the other day. I had been sticking around for r/pinkpillfeminism, which was still up but private. I made a long post on there that was auto removed for reasons I dont understand, and then I just had had enough. That website is so toxic and censored and filtered and trash, I’m so done. And saidit is a cesspool, even more male centric than reddit somehow. The only thing I liked about it was the absence of downvotes. Without downvotes you had to decide for yourself what you thought about a comment, without bias.

I hope someday I can get involved with moderating on this website, or even working up to admin. I’ve never in my life wanted to do that on a website, but a female centric space is a different story. In the meantime, I wonder if there is anything I can do to help spread the word.

I feel so free right now, I didn’t realize how gross it felt to be on reddit being so careful with what I say. Thank you to everyone involved with this.

CigarsofthepharoahsJuly 30, 2020

Hello! I'm so glad to be here. If we can have a Minecraft circle then I'll ditch Reddit for good!

MonstrousRegimentJuly 30, 2020

Honor to you! So happy to be here. Interesting how many of us have de-lurked as a result of the Great Banning.

WomanDownToTheXXJuly 30, 2020

I could not be more thrilled about this! Thank you for creating this community of women.

Lemonade_MasqueradeJuly 30, 2020

This is amazing. I can't thank you enough, everyone who made this website. By women for women! Just... thank you!

marmaladestripes725July 30, 2020

YAAAAYYYY!!! I’m so glad you’re back, and we have this amazing site all to ourselves! I hope all the sister subs come back! I need my TrollGC.

girl_undoneJuly 30, 2020

TrollGC has been reborn as /o/Radfemmery!

hollowerhuJuly 30, 2020

Hello everyone! Nice to meet you all! And I 'm very happy to join this group! Thank you!

nuJuly 30, 2020

AGREED! What a powerful statement. Thank you so much to everyone involved in bringing this together. I'm in awe of how quickly everything has been set up! Well done! Being here already feels like home. I felt so hopeless when so many of our spaces were shutdown recently...and this is like a salve on that hurt. Seeing the announcement that this site is now open was a huge relief. Also I'd like to mention how much I love puns and this site's name is already one of my favorites ever. :P

Up until now I've been a lurker in GC spaces voting where I can and keeping up with news as best I can, sharing news with those I trust, but I think with this site I'll try to contribute where I feel I can. I have a tendency to think I don't have much to add of value, but maybe I do after all. This place rising from the ashes of what has been so recently burned down has lit a fire within me of sorts. I feel a need to connect. Once again: thank you all so very much. It's comforting to be in such great company.

joni_ladybugJuly 30, 2020

I'm afraid I won't be able to find words to contain my gratitude. The team behind GC/Ovarit, you're stellar.

MoonflowerJuly 31, 2020

Thanks for all your hard work setting up this site. I had never actually posted on the GenderCritical subreddit, but seeing it get banned shook me to the core and left me wanting to do more to support women standing up against toxic sexist rhetoric masquerading as modern progressivism. Stay strong and keep it up!

courage2courageJuly 30, 2020

The bounds of “acceptable” discourse cannot be determined by a few corporations who only care about money and the censorious loud minority who threatens their bottom line.

YES!

How amazing that this site has been made by and for women. You've all done sterling work to get it up and running so quickly. Thank you so much for building a wonderful new home.

[Deleted]July 30, 2020

Thank you so much for all of your hard work. This is fantastic!

Would it be possible/is there a plan to create an app? I prefer to use an app, as a mobile user.

woman-definitelyJuly 30, 2020

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

When I saw this announced on twitter it made me cry - I've felt so alone and threatened!

GrendelsMotherAugust 1, 2020(Edited August 1, 2020)

Can we have a forum for general topics unrelated to activism? There is stuff I would love to chat about with only women.

sensusquaeramJuly 30, 2020

OMG thank you all so much for all your work, so good to be here!

memorandiblesJuly 31, 2020

I am so happy 💜 thank you for your incredible work. I’ve never felt what I feel when I wake up to no community (I have no GC friends) I never comment but I always read and stop reading GC felt like a hole in my heart, thank you to the tech team and everyone who is making possible this community.

TrueFireJuly 31, 2020

This site looks fantastic so far! I’m so happy to be part of this new beginning! Great work to all those involved and thank you for making this space. The loss of gender critical and its sister subs was gut wrenching. But we will rise up stronger than ever!

JohannaBeeJuly 30, 2020

Thank you to everyone who made this possible! 💜

BethJuly 31, 2020

Yay!!! I’m so excited for the potential this place has. Having a radfem-safe place is super important to me because people these days are so obsessed with genderism and cancel culture that you can’t even post about basic shit like plants or cats without men coming out of the woodwork to shame you for “hate”.

I hope that we’re able to get some more “general” communities going, like travel, fiber arts, botany, gaming, etc!

RaeAugust 5, 2020(Edited August 5, 2020)

I am sorry that the Reddit ban happened but I love this outcome!

Just a suggestion - it would be nice to be able to have the option of getting rid of downvoting in circles.

grumpyjewishfeministAugust 2, 2020

Thank you all so much! You're incredible for putting together such a complex website in very little time.

I'm still furious about the reddit ban, but I think that Ovarit is the start of an awesome new phase of the movement.

SamuraiGhostCatAugust 1, 2020

So excited for this!!!!!!!! Hello goddesses! I've missed you!

Mods (admins now technically, right? 😎), you are so appreciated for the work you do. I can't state enough how much you've helped the radfem & gender critical movement. You've helped tens of thousands (maybe even hundreds of thousands) of women by giving us a space all these years. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Did I mention how EXCITED I am for this?!?!?!?!?!? Haha.

Can't wait to watch it grow!

ramaniAugust 20, 2020

SO happy to be here! I lurked on r/GC for over a year and was just about ready to post when the ban happened. Honestly, I think it’s a blessing in disguise in a way - at least here we don’t have to constantly weigh and measure what we say in order to not get quarantined/banned (which happened anyway).

mistmillitiaAugust 11, 2020

Ovarit merch when? Mostly kidding. So glad we have a real space for discussion, not under anyone's thumb. Thank you so much for creating it!

immersangAugust 1, 2020

Thank you so much for creating this space for us and in such a short amount of time. That's very impressive and a testament to your passion and determination.

Is there already a way to contribute in some form besides posting here, i.e. for example pitching in for server costs?

RhythmNativeSeptember 8, 2020

Thank you for the add <3

purplepainAugust 3, 2020

thank you so much for this. we need women-only spaces. im so happy to be a part of this <3

RaeAugust 5, 2020

Sorry, I can't find my last comment so I'm posting twice. I'm on mobile and just want to put out there that endless scrolling makes it hard to find the "search" button which seems to be located at the bottom of the platform. It might make things smoother if "search" and "sort" options were at the top of the screen. If this has already been pointed out, I apologize for the repeat of information!

Athena58August 5, 2020

Thanks for doing this and thank you for having me.

[Deleted]August 1, 2020

I was so enraged after Reddit banned you. I hadn't posted a lot on the GC subreddit before, but when it got banned, I was livid. I immediately went looking for other platforms, I found spinster (which is also great) and I was checking for daily updates on twitter because I was desperately looking forward to a radfem platform where men don't get to censor us.

I'm so happy to be here, and I'm going to contribute far more actively than I did on reddit. I just hope that this gets big enough to become a true haven for women and girls. Fuck reddit and it's neo-liberal male-dominated culture.

Thank y'all so much for doing the work you do.

MariaChequitaAugust 1, 2020

I'm so happy about this, I thought about using my old reddit name (XxwomanxX) but realized nah, I don't need to make a point here because it's implicitly understood.

SmithJane2020August 9, 2020

Thank you so much. I could see the ban wave coming for Reddit, but was still shocked it actually happened. I feel like the world has gone collectively insane. How can we be doubting biological reality and buying into the delusion of gender? Reinforcing it?! How easily we forget or fail to acknowledge all the women who fought for our human rights as a sex class that needs protecting. I don't feel able to speak openly, as I believe I would lose my job at minimum, but have started doing things like liking JK Rowling supporting tweets. How pathetic is it that I still slightly panic to hit that little heart symbol? I could not have more respect for those of you who feel able to speak loudly on our behalf. I probably won't say much even here, but I love you all, my true sisters.

madradinfiniteJuly 31, 2020

Happy to be part of this community. The information and community I found on the GenderCritical sub-reddit was transformational for me and that has happened only once before for me with an online community in my adult life. This is a rare thing we must protect it. Reddit is over and I am ovarit :)
