Recommendation RequestFeminist audio book suggestions?
Posted September 25, 2022 by hontrapoints in FeministBooks

I don't typically listen to audio books and feel a bit lost.

I'd like to start knitting more frequently, but often struggle to find things to listen to while doing so. And still have a huge laundry list of feminist books and authors that I want to read. Unfortunately knitting while reading is not a possibility.

Has anyone else experienced such an issue? If so, do you have any recommendations for audio books from feminist authors or where to find something like that?

Thank you in advance.

Carol Adams' The Sexual Politics of Meat is an excellent audiobook. Disturbing, but important.

In a similar boat. I’ve found there’s really a dearth of classic feminist literature out there in audio format which is tragic. I’ve been able to find Last Days at Hot Slit, the Andrea Dworkin anthology, and modern gender adjacent things (Irreversible Damage as well as assorted titles like T). If you broaden to things like Who Cooked the Last Supper and histories of fiber arts (and inevitably how womens work has been devalued) then you have more options. Check your library’s digital lending, they tend to have a good amount of options and I prefer to borrow what I can before using my Audible credits. Barring that, I’ve also filled my listening time with radfem podcasts, listening to speakers corners or interviews on YouTube, or even using a screen reader to narrate articles I want to read.

There are a few recordings of selections from classic feminist writings I found on… maybe SoundCloud? But I’ll have to dig for it. I’ll link if I locate it.

And in looking for it I found an audio archive of Dworkin. http://andreadworkin.com/audio/
