I'm in a slump with my fitness.

I'm much more likely to be watching TV than going to the gym lately. I'm usually so active, but I've been slowly winding down over this year. It's hard to muster the energy to bounce back.

Anyone else?

My gym is closed because of lockdown and it kinda ruined all my fitness goals for the year. I miss swimming, as it was a great exercise.

Yeah same here. Swimming was my go to fitness routine. I’ve been trying to go hiking but it’s not the same really. Really miss it.

I’ve been in a slump for two years, ever since moving to a country area and having no transport until I got my license, which took a year. And since then C19 has put the kybosh on any efforts I might have made to get out and about. Now I’ll be moving back to civilisation soon, but that comes with C19 restrictions and risks that didn’t affect an isolated existence. At least I’ll have places to walk, which has always been my main exercise anyway.

Oh god, yes... All the COVID lockdown craziness of 2020 has thrown off my fitness situation so badly. Before the switch to working from home, I used to get 10,000 steps a day without even trying just from commuting to the office, and hit the gym at least once a week on top of it... But now I have no reason to go anywhere, and I hate wearing a mask so fucking much that even if places are technically open I’d rather just stay in.

My diet has been crap too - I think something snapped in my brain during those few weeks where all the grocery store shelves were picked over and it was impossible to buy toilet paper, leaving this weird irrational subconscious feeling of “why would you not just eat all the calories if there might be a famine at any moment”...

I know it’s a problem though, and definitely need to get back on track (maybe as a 2021 new year’s resolution)... But in the meantime I’ll just commiserate. You’re definitely not alone :)

Yes! The famine instinct. I think it was so real. We had a small outbreak here last weekend and suddenly you can't buy toilet paper in this state anymore. It's probably a good thing that our brains go into survival mode so quickly. I just wish that my survival mode was more like a tall warrior princess.

I was getting good at weighted pull ups and then for some reason all my strength disappeared. I'm not having this issue with any other exercise. Go figure. Hate it...

Same same! I’m not sure if it’s long covid or something less exotic but I’ve had freakishly low energy since I had a mystery bad cough in March. I tried to get back into running but I keep getting what feels like mild flu every 5 weeks, lasting for a week or two. My core is shot from pregnancy, so I’ve been doing 5 min Pilates and even that’s too much for me most days. I can’t even be bothered to do my kegels

Argh this year!

I got injured last year (overuse) and then COVID hit, together putting my running routine at a total standstill. Now, between feeling depressed about my injury and the pandemic, I’ve basically given up. I manage to get some mountain biking sessions in occasionally, but I feel extremely unmotivated to do much of anything. I want to ski this winter for some activity, but skiing is a financially draining sport.

Oh, I'm in this position exactly. I can't do my usual sports because of an ankle injury. It's just demoralising.

I've never skied but I snow-shoed once. It was hard work but really fun.
