I've posted a couple of times in the past few years about the Radfem DND group I'm a part of and thought it was about overdue to update yous all on our adventures and hopefully encourage some of you to perhaps try to also find a group of your own with other like minded women.
In the last couple years we've actually started two more DnD campaigns in our group because a few of us wanted a turn in the DM's seat so now we have 3 campaigns!
One started off as a Halloween oneshot but our DM was too ambitious and it turned into a sort of mini campaign. Our adventuring group set off to an old ruined city in hopes of finding answers for personal reasons and ended up in some crazy prophetic cyclical time loop where in we have one session left and we're about to square off with a black dragon! I'm like... 90% sure we're going to TPK but... it being cyclical, our characters will forever be stuck in a loop of trying to kill this dragon. It's been really cool and our DM for that one is a Creative Writing student so it's been incredibly well thought out and beautifully narrated! I can't wait to finish it so we can see how it all fits together.
I got to play a Fire Genasi Artificer in that one named Icarus, and she definitely plays with fire. She's too busy thinking whether she can do something rather than whether it's a good idea or not lol Our other players consist of an ancient Wizard Harengon who's been cursed and is slowly turning into a tree, as well as her friend and companion, a Tiefling Paladin who worships nature and my character's lab assistant - a Kenku Sorcerer who keeps trying to steal Icarus' mechanical arm because it's shiny lol.
Here's a picture of Icarus I drew
Our First Campaign is still going though because of time restraints and our other campaigns we haven't progressed a whole lot BUT since my last update we've burnt down a tavern as a distraction to break a woman out of prison... and then hours later we broke BACK into the SAME PRISON to break out ANOTHER woman lol So we did 2 prison breaks in one day lol We rescued a peasant woman who we promised to rescue WAY back when we started the campaign as well as a rogue who got herself arrested trying to avenge her sisters murder. We also liberated a small settlement of people who were being exploited by the crown. People were going missing and it was thought to be a creature in the woods who we took care of, but I think it was actually the foreman who was running the settlement and that he was selling the dead bodies to an undead army. (I voiced as much in character and I def noticed my DM's eyebrow go up lol) it's been really fun and I can't wait to get back into it.
And our 3rd campaign is a new one I'm DMing! If any of my players are here... DO NOT READ PAST THIS POINT! I ran short little 1 on 1 sessions with each of the players to introduce them to the world and get them to a point where they would all meet, and well... normally we play online because of distance issues... BUT for our first 2 sessions we actually all met up in person from 3 different countries and got to play together! It was incredible!
The world is rife with strange monsters created by a force known as the Dreamer and the campaign itself takes place in a world where the ruins of a previous civilization are scattered about, long since destroyed and no one knows what happened to them... but little do they know, history is about to repeat itself and it will be up to them to stop it. The other planes are starting to spill in to one another and the barriers are thinning allowing for the Demon Lord Baphomet, the Prince of Beasts, to enter the Prime Material Plane and destroy it once again! and i'm super excited because I'm trying to incorporate my players backstories as much as I can into the main plot!
We have a Barbarian Centaur who was once killed by a rival Minotaur clan and brought back to life by her wife's patron, they managed to kill the leader of the minotaurs... buuuuuut they don't know he's a follower of Baphomet and Baphomet has made him a fiend... so when he died, he was reborn in the Abyss only to return and gather "clay" for Baphomet's unholy creations.
Then we have the Centaur's wife, a Triton Warlock (talk about odd couple lol) who doesn't know where she's from or even what she is. Her people have not been seen in over 30 years. Her Patron is a Ki-rin, a celestial beast that has watched over her since she was a child and now resides in her wife and watches over them both... and is trying to prepare the Triton to find the heart of the Dreamer (A dead Goddess who was killed by Baphomet thousands of years ago and who's glaive has infected her heart and causes her to unconsciously create monsters in response to the emotions of the people of the world) and potentially absorb her divine spark and become the new Goddess of Compassion (Very much end game goals) As well as save the remaining Tritons who are frozen in time in a desperate fight for survival against a Kraken that the Ki-rin itself feels responsible for.
Then we have the Firbolg Bard! a 500 year old librarian who's contracted a mysterious ailment of shadows that seems to be consuming her. She's trying to find out more before she dies so that she may help others who contract it... But the shadow plague is a result of the Cosmological Solstice... an event where the planes bleed into one another and the Shadows from the Shadowfell are slowly coming into the Prime Material Plane. It's been really fun because we made a custom table for her illness that as it progresses gives her different features (both good and bad) as well as an elixir made from fey flowers (the opposite of the Shadowfell) that can reduce her symptoms but not cure her. She's been having what she believes to be hallucinations of shadowy creatures but she doesn't know yet that it's actually that her character is becoming one with the shadows and is able to see into the Shadowfell and soon all those "hallucinations" will wreak havoc in the Prime Material Plane.
And lastly we have our Drow Rogue who is on the run for a murder she didn't commit and is currently in possession of a key relic from the previous civilization that one of the Big Bads wants as it will help him open the gate to bring back Baphomet. I'm still working on incorporating her backstory more as hers is a lot more down to earth than the others but I've already got some ideas brewing.
Here's the party I'm DMing for!
The group is currently on their way to a swamp to seek the aid of a Hag to learn more about the Shadow Plague but they're about to come across a town that's been ravaged by monstrous insects created by the corrupted heart of the Dreamer. It's been super fun and I cannot wait for them to see what all I have planned for them. I have so much... like even trying to condense it down here in a way that makes any kind of sense is hard lol but DMing for this group has reaaaaaaly scratched my creative itch! and we all get along so well that it's been a breeze. When issues do arise, we talk about it and sort it out but I've never had to worry about inappropriate or rude behaviour from any of them!
Anyway... all this to say... dnd is an absolute blast for anyone with even a hint of creativity and if you do want to play, I HIGHLY recommend finding a group of all women to play with! Our group went from strangers to close knit friends who've since rented and B&B together just to meet up and play DND together! as Well as two becoming a couple and literally moving across seas to be together! it's been an adventure in itself and a bonding experience like no other.
