ReviewIt is time for you to start playing Wingspan

After the deafening silence in response to my last post looking for Wingspan digital players, I have come to the realization that I need to evangelize.

Wingspan is an engine-building bird game. That means that not only do you get to roll dice for food and lay cute little eggs everywhere, you get to build little “machines” that will rack up points. I cannot stress enough how insanely satisfying these machines are. There is nothing like building them and watching them run. I could be having my leg amputated with no anesthetic but if it was my turn and I had a good engine going, I’d still be more interested in that more than the leg thing. It is like a giant dopamine rush that never lessens.

Now, you might be thinking, “Eh, who needs it?” Well if you don’t play Wingspan then you are a BAD FEMINIST. There, I said it. The game was created by a woman and it’s extremely popular. It’s one of the only popular board games ever made by a woman. She’s great. You could think of her like the JKR of board games except without the GC stuff. She also makes games about mushrooms. Not to mention all the gorgeous BIRD ART is painted by three women, yes, no men painting birds for this game! Not for any of the expansion packs. So you can rest easy choosing any bird card you like knowing that it was not tainted by a Y chromosome.

Now you might also be thinking, “But it will take too long to learn and I hate learning a new game!” Well, after your game finishes downloading, you will find a handy tutorial to help you learn how to play.

Of course you could get the physical game—actually admittedly you should because it is so much more fun—but it is $60 and the iOS version is only $10. It’s also on steam. Not sure how much there. Also if you get the iOS version we can play together until my Common Raven crushes you in its beak haha don’t worry I almost never get ravens.
