So this is just some thoughts I had in relation to another post and discussion about hating video games. I figured it'd be better to start a new discussion in this circle because I kind of want to expand on some things related to the topic, but not derail OP's post there.
In the comments there, it seems that the majority of respondents enjoyed video games to some extent, though there were a few who said they never have liked them. Some of you are even pretty serious gamers -- more so than I am, I have more of a casual interest in it and don't really play any more serious/intense games.
anyways, here are questions for discussion - pick and choose which you feel like answering:
- How would you describe the role or position of video games in society today? Do you think they have more of a positive impact or a negative impact overall?
- regarding negative impacts of video games - have you experienced them yourself and/or witnessed these in other people? what kinds of negative impacts were there?
- How could the negative impacts of video games be reduced?
- What types (such as genres, or premises) of games would you like to see more of that you don't think the industry caters to enough?
- what is your relation (or perception of) to video gaming, and how do you think it might differ from how men typically relate to/perceive video games?
- do you participate in any kind of gaming community, whether online or in person? if so, what is it like? how much do you typically talk about video games with others?
- How do you think the video games industry could cater to women better?
- how do you deal with misogyny in games themselves and/or in gaming communities?
- Anything else you think is relevant to the topic!
