Advice WantedNortheast balcony plants? Edible preferred :)
I got the unfortunate luck of getting a northeast facing balcony for my apartment. It gets pretty gentle morning sun (although if I recall it’ll be a bit stronger in the summer) from sunrise until maybe noon-ish. A couple spots on the corners manage an hour longer and I’ve rigged some extra little shelves there.
But I’d love to know what could possibly be happy with early morning sun. So far I have leeks and carrots in grow bags, a bunch of Japanese Mizuna greens starting, some red Korean lettuce (got the seeds from the Asian market so I’m not 100 percent sure on the name of the variety, they seem to germinate crazy fast though). I also have catnip, parsley and thyme started. I have some Dahlias for the shadier corner (I know they’re not edible but I do want some flowers…)
I’ve been starting some inside but I think the light I have stinks and I’ve gotten rid of a few for being too leggy.
Just wondering if any of you have recommendations for things that can possibly thrive here. I’ve had a black thumb most years and then before I moved here I had a yard with full strong sun so I’m not at all experienced with trying to pick stuff that may be okay with just a little bit.
I do have some Swiss chard seeds but I’m not sure how it will fare, as well as some turnip seeds once I get more soil for my grow bags.
Also if anyone has tips on how to get cheaper potting soil I’d love to know. Since I left everything when I moved states it has been a bit of an expense if I don’t catch it on sale. I tried the compressed soil that claims it’s as much as two bags but really not a fan of how it feels.

If it changes your sex then what sex is it changed to? Sex is a reproductive role. Role in the same sense of heterotroph or autotroph, an evolved physical function. When a man takes estrogen and develops superficial female characteristics, his reproductive role (sex) doesn’t change. It’s like if I painted myself green and had leaves surgically attached to me because I would prefer to be an autotroph. That’s fine. I am allowed to mentally reject heterotrophy. But I will not be capable of photosynthesis. If a man decides to cut off his genitals and grow breasts and not father children, that’s fine (especially the not fathering children part). He mentally rejects his reproductive role. But he will not then have female reproductive abilities.

But, if the statement were true, then there will be much inevitable detransition when cross sex hormones must be stopped because of the life threatening medical risks. If he’s a ‘woman’ because of taking female hormones, it will be interesting to see if his bp becoming dangerously high + doctor saying no more automatically makes him a man again, huh?
