I’m super excited because I ordered a mini compost tumbler (if I was a TIM I might have a euphoria boner). I plan to do hot composting over the summer.
Anyway, I’m a bit unsure of something; I’ve been reading instructions on various websites, and they say to begin the process layer by layer - a layer of carbon then a layer of nitrogen, followed by more carbon, and so on. So my question is…does this apply to the tumblers or just the compost piles? I thought the idea of the tumbler was to tumble the whole big mess to aerate it as much as possible. Am I actually supposed to add all my food scraps layer by layer, alternating between them and carbon-rich stuff like twigs, and only tumble it all once in a while? And what if I have a bunch of kitchen scraps but not many carbon-rich items?
I got the tumbler because I thought I would be able to just tumble it as much as I want and have fun doing so. Was I actually incorrect?
Also, can I add worms, or is that a different type of composting?
Are there any interesting, well-developed female characters? I had a hard time with Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell because it had a such a boys' club atmosphere.
Talking about any characters is a bit of a spoiler so I've tagged it.
I haven't read it but I've been wanting to for a while, I think because I saw someone recommend it on here. I have a hold on the ebook version from my local library but I have to wait 10 weeks 😩 (I've also had this hold for several weeks already...)
