Advice WantedHelp — fungus gnats
Posted September 24, 2024 by FernLady in Gardening

I have a bunch of indoor plants in my house, and around May I brought in a new one that unfortunately was infested with fungus gnats. Before I realized the problem, several of my other plants got infested too and I’ve been dealing with the problem ever since 😣. Would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

Here’s what I’ve done:

  • for the badly infested plants, I threw away their original soil and repotted with new soil
  • I have exclusively been watering the plants using a mix of water and hydrogen peroxide as suggested on the internet
  • I have switched to watering at the bottom (the water tray) instead of watering at the soil
  • i have covered the soil on all the plants with diotomaceous soil as I read this kills small insects. I reapply whenever watering has caused it to get soggy
  • I put sticky traps on all the plants
  • I went on a vacation for 17 days and the plants were not watered at all during this time

Yet now I’m back from vacation and there are still fungus gnats. I’m at the end of my rope and I really don’t want to throw away my plants. The biggest problem right now is my monstera (per the sticky traps this one has it the worst) so I haven’t watered it in 4 weeks.

Is there something that I can use to attract them and kill them ? I can’t take it anymore 😭 I have 20 plants and some of them are barely hanging on from being so dried out
