What does scarify mean when it comes to seeds? Did you have to walk all over the city to find all these seeds for the four different types of trees?
Scarification means to rough up the seed coat. Legume trees have interesting seeds in that they don’t require cold stratification in order to germinate (they can be germinated within days of collecting as opposed to most other species that require months of “hibernation” in the fridge) but they have very very hard seed coats that need to be broken so that water can permeate them. It can be achieved by rubbing with sandpaper, slicing with a sharp knife, or soaking in boiling water.
Thanks for explaining! I don’t know much about gardening or plants, yet!
Good luck! Let us know if/when they germinate.
