Maybe it's an addiction just like with porn? The risk vs reward factor has changed drastically considering their fetish is now publicly accepted as stunning and brave. This shit would never fly before 2015. They no longer have to deal with the shame of it all, so they go for it. I'd also like a comprehensive study, it's worth looking into.
I think with AGPs specifically there's definitely a societal acceptance aspect that's motivating it.
I'd agree that men are more prone to addiction. But it's hard to tell how much of it is biological mental weakness or just men not being held accountable.
*Mental weakness with the way they listen to these AGP "audios" I mean, not chemical addictions.

Well other types of addicts are normal at first too. Someone also mentioned porn. Most regular guys watch porn, I assume habit can form in the same way.
Pretty sure TIFs are buying into this BS as well. If you believe being a woman means being an air headed bimbo who lives to please and be objectified by men, it would be very reasonable to want to flee womanhood.

It's probably more of an Occam's razor than I'm making it out to be, yeah. But the idea of willingly brainwashing yourself, believing the brainwashing even though you're the one doing it / no one's making you, and then castrating yourself is the weirdest combination of sad and hilarious I can think of.
