I am a sucker for romance, it is my absolute favorite genre. What’s your favorite lesbian romance novel or movie?

You've clearly thought about this in great detail. My overwhelming impression is that you'd be a director's director, not one hung up on your audience or mass appeal.

I wouldn't want to be a director. If I did, I'd probably want my hallmarks to be something like use of lighting or witty dialogue or long shots (I detest the quick edits so loved today - let the camera linger, let a scene breathe).

Please become a director. That sounds awesome.

I don't really have ambitions to become a director, so I can only list the things that annoy me about directors, and say what I'd do different:

  • If I did a fantasy movie with elves, I'd either invest the time to hire only actually unrealistically beautiful people to play elves, or I'd do an animated movie. (LotR didn't quite manage, imho. The women were fine, but the men .... nah. Not really.)

  • Any stunt scenes would be only done with fully clothed people. No telling stuntwomen "you can't wear your safety gear because we need you to wear a little black dress" - writers will just have to come up with scenarios where the woman who is thrown out of the window wears clothes that safety gear can be hidden under, or deal with me just throwing a realistic doll out of the window.

  • No sex scenes with real people. No kissing, either. People should be able to have acting careers without having to kiss strangers. If the sex scene is absolutely needed, it will be an animated movie. Not sure about nude scenes, but if there are any, they will be non-sexual and the actors will always be given the option of having a double do the nude scenes.

In general, I'd become known for idealistic movies, often fantasy, with wholesome main characters and happy endings, and probably accused of my work being unbearably cheesy. (Though inbetween, I might do some seemingly dark stuff ... that is still extremely idealistic. Kinda like Pan's Labyrinth, if you get what I mean. I'd allow people to imagine that the happy ending was all just imaginary, but a happy ending there will be.)

I’ll be honest and say I’ve never really thought about directing movies, but, I love everything you’ve said here, and would love to see one (or more!) of your films

No obligatory heterosexual pair in every film that often adds nothing to the plot. That and their tedious obligatory sex scenes in many films.
