None of this is avoidable as a lesbian
Posted April 28, 2021 by [Deleted] in Lesbians

Tonight after spending a bit of time on Ovarit, I logged off and attempted to distract myself from the gender wars. I logged into Facebook, first thing I see is yet ANOTHER lesbian acquaintance has ‘nonbinaried’ herself. Masculinised her name, changed her Prounouns on Facebook to ‘they / them’ and has uploaded the required photo of her with short hair and a button-down shirt as proof of her non-femaleness. The comments underneath the post are blowing up with mutual friends falling over themselves to praise her for her bravery. (Obviously don’t care at all about her presenting butch, just the regressive idea that this means she isn’t a woman). Then I log off Facebook, log onto a dating app I am using and am met with several profiles in a row that are lesbian women declaring their ‘nonbinary’ status. As I’m checking the app, get an email from a local gay book club about trans authors to honour lesbian visibility week.

It never ends. Sometimes I think maybe I’m just too finely attuned to stuff happening online, which doesn’t have much bearing on real life. But the thing is, online is real life. It affects real lives and influences culture and society. I have never felt more lonely as a lesbian and more cut off from real community as I do now. I just want to focus on women and celebrate same sex attraction. In this current climate it seems basically impossible
