o/Lesbians is a space for lesbians to connect, thrive, and build a genuine lesbian community. We define lesbianism as homosexuality; a woman’s exclusive same-sex attraction to other women. Participation by non-lesbians in this circle is not allowed.
Along with our rules, we enforce the sitewide rules and guidelines.
No participation by people who are not both female and exclusively same sex attracted. Users in violation will be banned. This includes posting, commenting, and voting.
Assume good faith. Please refrain from being preemptively belligerent or defensive.
No attacks, insults, or reciprocation. If you are attacked by another user, use the report button instead of reciprocating. If you reciprocate, you will also be in violation of this rule.
No slurs or pejoratives. The words 'cis' or 'cisgender' used to refer to other women are considered slurs. Name calling, ad hominem attacks, and other language used specifically to target another user will also not be tolerated.
No bullying/ganging up on people. If the content is rule-breaking, report it instead of piling on.
Refrain from overgeneralizing your own experience onto others, or implying that what was true for you is necessarily true for all lesbians.
No criticism of sexual boundaries or relationship boundaries.
No content questioning one's lesbian orientation. Posts like 'When did you know?' are okay, but posts like 'What am I?' are not. We cannot tell you what you are. Similarly, refrain from unfounded speculation regarding the sex lives and sexuality of other women.
Gender-critical or trans-critical content lacking a lesbian focus will be removed.
No derailing or hijacking. This refers to posting a comment that is unrelated to the topic of the post, which often kills the original discussion.
No pornography. NSFW posts must be marked as such.
No selfies or other sharing of personal identifying information; no spam; and no self-promotion.
No using the exclusivity of the circle in bad faith towards/about the rest of the site, its content, or other users, who cannot respond if they've been misunderstood or misrepresented.
I have a few minor problems with this but here's where I really take issue.
Rape is functionally decriminalized. Saying that it being illegal doesn't change anything isn't telling the whole story. I don't know a single acquaintance or friend who has been raped who even bothered contacting law enforcement. Often there's a bunch of reasons for that, but "what's the point?" is a HUGE one. I remember the Stanford rape trial, I remember the girl who was raped by a dorm neighbor at Harvard, high profile cases with sympathetic victims where literally nothing happened to the rapists. (I mean I guess the Stanford rapist got a tiny slap on the wrist but it was a fucking joke.)
A victim who goes to law enforcement is usually treated like garbage and for what? Cops to not even bother bringing the rapist in? Oh, maybe it actually goes to trial... just for the rapist to get praised for his sport abilities in open court?
Rapists don't think twice before raping because they know that even though it's illegal there are no actual consequences. There need to be more Larry Nassars, more rapists who are actually punished. And the punishments need to be swift and severe.
If someone steals my car, that really would suck for me, it might be a horrible inconvenience and screw things up a lot, but I wouldn't have nightmares for the rest of my life about it. Why is the punishment for stealing a car harsher than rape? Why should teenage girls have to bear some weird conservative burden on having safe, healthy, age appropriate sexual interactions (and not pornsick ones - I agree that is something that also needs to change) because we refuse to lock up and actually punish men that feel like they have a right to rape?
