Let me know if this isn't the right place to post this.
I read an article recently about Peach PRC's song "Like A Girl Does". I looked up the lyrics and listened to the song. It's being proclaimed as some sort of "lesbian anthem", but the lyrics... I don't know. I don't like them.
It's all about how girls are better at sex than guys. Yes, of course, but I would hope that for a "lesbian anthem" song, we wouldn't discuss men at all.
Peach PRC herself is... eh. She was a stripper before singing, she said she was bisexual before changing it to lesbian a year after she broke up with her boyfriend, and she refers to herself with the Q slur.
Maybe I'm just being unfair for thinking this is sus. What do the rest of you think?
There's so much more to being a lesbian than just sex. I'm a lesbian that's never had sex therefore I cannot relate to this song at all. Also, being a lesbian is far more different from being "queer". I get bad vibes from her
Whatever happened to Ferron? Shouldn't she or Melissa Ethridge be the author of any 'anthem'? Tracy Chapman, of course. Tegan and Sara. Indigo Girls, kd lang, lp, Syd, St. Vincent, Temmi Ovwasa, Brandi Carlisle, Dusty Springfield, Sotiria Bellou; well here is an extended list: Arlo Parks King Princess girl in red janelle monae Hayley Kiyoko Fletcher https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zm5P1WxvshE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDriZp6dTic. Tegan and Sara can fuck off they're huge TRAs and call themselves the q slur.
edit - so is Hayley Kiyoko. she made a mv with a man in a skirt getting rescued by an obviously straight dude who takes him on a date to a diner and is tehehe charmed by just how much the TIM can eat at the diner. it was weird af. I imagine Pvris and Girl In Red Are the same.
not saying they arent lesbians but just saying that if asked, they'd say those songs are also for men in dresses who wanna rape lesbians or are having sex with each other and then go to lesbian bars and spaces etc and claim what they're doing is lesbian sex.
Allison Weiss was great too but she transed out and goes by John Allison.
Wow, I didn't know Hayley Kiyoko made that video. I used to listen to her music and I liked that she was creating music videos for lesbians but this is really disappointing. I also love Tegan and Sara's older music but yeah...It's really sad how so many lesbian musicians (or just lesbians in general) are tras.
I'm old. Our lesbian anthem was "Ode to a Gym Teacher".
