activismACTION: Urge women's org not to give in to calls for Bethany Hamilton to be canceled
The short version: Bethany Hamilton was a 13 year old surfer when a shark bit off her arm. She kept going and is one of the most famous and successful female surfers in the world. She is against allowing male surfers to compete in female categories and is boycotting events on that basis.
The Women’s Fund of Oshkosh has her as their keynote speaker at an event, and subsequently, “members and allies of Oshkosh’s LGBTQ+ community” issued an open letter to complain, saying
Once the Women’s Fund has removed and replaced Bethany Hamilton as keynote speaker for this and any future events and issued a public statement of apology to the LGBTQ+ community, we stand ready to accept that apology
Please take a moment to contact The Women's Fund and let them know you support their choice of Hamilton as keynote speaker. I think it's particularly important for us to call/email in and let them know that the so-called “LGBTQ+ community” does not speak for us.

I just saw "(non-binary, any pronouns are fine)" in a professional bio. I stared at the screen like 😐😐😐 for a full minute. She literally has blue hair. There's nothing about her that makes her sex remotely not apparent.
I would be tossing her resume.
She has a cushy job at a major U.S. academic institution. Sigh.
