Horror films with zero camp and minimal grotesqueness?
Posted September 28, 2024 by velvetpaws in Movies

When I love horror, I really love it. Some of my favorite movies of all time come from this genre. Unfortunately I'm also super picky, and not just about overall quality but about specific themes and aesthetics.

I have a feeling that I'm asking for the impossible, but I would love to find something that fits the following:

  • No camp/comedy/B movie stuff
  • Minimal disgust-inducing content. Violence is okay but I can't take a lot of stomach-churning visuals.
  • Still must be psychologically terrifying. I'm looking for something truly frightening, not cute.

Films I loved:

  • Midsommar
  • It Follows
  • The Shining
  • Get Out

Films that aren't in the horror genre but still have that feeling of disorienting dread that I'm after (would love recommendations for stuff like this as well):

  • Mulholland Drive
  • No Country for Old Men

I think there's a plan for this. Right now there are other priorities
