My Old Ass (spoilers, but don’t watch it anyway)
Wondering if anyone else saw this bullshit. I (26, febfem who loves movies) took my wife (25, gold star who doesn’t care about movies) to see it on a date back in early Oct and I fear I’ve scared her away from the theater forever. The letterboxd reviews are almost all positive, of course (and the comment ‘that one friend who’s too woke’ appears under the negative ones).
Basically the MC, white lesbian who hooks up with women, trips on shrooms and meets her puerto-rican older self. Older self tells her to stay away from boys named Chad and of course MC doesn’t, then has a BISEXUAL/PANSEXUAL AWAKENING. She never says the word lesbian but actually does say the words bi and pan.
Percy Hynes White (rapist)’s “Chad” is the reason for said awakening and there is an awful scene where she has “dick sex” (HER WORDS) framed as a big virginity-losing moment. Older self tells her he dies, and that she told MC to stay away from him to prevent the pain she feels after his death since he is the one true love she has for the rest of her life and no love with women she has will ever top it, even the girlfriend older self has.
My god. I don’t understand any of the praise this movie is getting or how any bisexual is willing to admit they relate to this. It’s been over a month and I just get this rage whenever I think about it.
