The Wicked movie is a breathtaking adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical that left me in awe. It beautifully blends the nostalgia of the original with fresh, cinematic magic, all while staying true to its core themes of friendship, prejudice, and acceptance. From the very first scene, it’s clear that every detail has been carefully crafted to honor the stage version while offering something new and exciting for fans and newcomers alike. Cynthia Erivo’s portrayal of Elphaba is nothing short of extraordinary. Her performance feels deeply personal, and her voice gave me chills, making every moment with her unforgettable. Ariana Grande, as Glinda, surprised me with her perfect mix of humor and emotional depth, she brought charm, wit, and vulnerability to a character I already loved. Their dynamic on-screen is electric, drawing you into the heart of the story. Visually, the movie is a masterpiece. The dazzling costumes and intricate sets transport you straight to Oz, while the stunning visual effects create a world that feels both magical and real. It’s rare for a musical adaptation to capture the energy of the stage, but Wicked not only meets that challenge, it surpasses it, making the experience even more immersive. For me, Wicked isn’t just a movie; it’s a celebration of what makes this story so special. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or discovering it for the first time, it’s an emotional and visually stunning journey that stays with you long after the credits roll. I couldn’t recommend it more highly.
I saw it yesterday and agree 100%. You expressed my experience perfectly.
I wanted to watch it again immediately after.
I'm seeing it tomorrow. I can't wait! I remember in like 2008 they said the movie would come out in 2016 and it felt so far away to little me. Now it's almost 2025.
I was reluctant to see it because I felt like splitting it into two movies was a cynical cash grab. But I've changed my mind after seeing clips of the film/songs online. Grande and Erivo really are amazing in this movie. I doubt I'll see it in cinema (two hours with no intermission is too much for me LOL). But I'll totally buy it or watch it on streaming
So no trans characters to put up with?
Nope, all clear! However, there's slight homoerotic tension/a moment between Fiyero and one of Glinda's male friends (essentially, he's fawning after him in a comedic scene. It's honestly quite funny, lol).
Excellent!
Having younger children this is what I was wondering.
It might be the kind of magical experience millions of children in the 20th center remember with the Wizard of Oz. Now we have two "favorite movies" based on a classic feminist story, with great music.
