This is disgusting. He’s going to rape someone again.
“The criminal justice system has proven that crimes against women don’t matter, therefore we don’t matter,” Ms Laroo wrote. “Women are forced to stick together and help each other out because if we don’t do it, no one else will.”
We're not protected under this modern criminal justice system. It's still heavily influenced by the archaic patriarchal laws of the past. The work of feminists isn't done until crimes against women are taken seriously and the criminal justice system is actually working to protect us from criminals who target women. It shouldn't be up to individual citizens to act as vigilantes to warn other women like this; that is a sign of a failing system. However, I'm grateful for their vigilantism and I will participate in it until the system catches up.
It's so sad that women have to do this in order to protect themselves and other women. She's right, the legal system fails us and doesn't give a shit about women.
Reading the letter his victim wrote made me sob. She wrote so powerfully and heartbreakingly about what that monster did to her and the trauma she endured following the rape. He should be locked up for life, he is a danger to women and not fit for society. Fuck this evil piece of shit, I hope he gets what he deserves.
I really recommend Chanel Miller’s book, Know My Name. It is extremely well written, although hard to read for obvious reasons. The rape was the beginning, but she continued to be violated by the legal process, the media and Turner’s lawyers, and even the stupid judge who fell for the whole ‘but it will ruin his life’ claim. Good! He deserves to have his life ruined. Just goes to show that even in the most open and shut cases - caught in the act, victim unconscious - it is still difficult for women to get justice. She’s an incredibly brave and impressive woman.
All Brock has to do is change his gender identity and name and because deadnaming was invented, nobody will be able to link his new "identity" to his rapist piece of shit record. Nobody will know it's him anymore.
Not in Ohio as long as the offender is required to register as a sex offender (some levels of convicted offense only require an up to 15 year registration, higher levels require lifetime such as in Brock Turner's case) and this is in the statue regarding criteria for the court to grant a name change: (C)1) The court shall not order a change of name under division (A) of this section if the person applying for a change of name or for whom the application for a change of name is made has a duty to comply with section 2950.04 or 2950.041 of the Revised Code because the applicant or the person on whose behalf the application for a change of name is made was convicted of, pleaded guilty to, or was adjudicated a delinquent child for having committed a sexually oriented offense or a child-victim oriented offense.
good to know. I just read a detrans man's story and he said he got out of debts because he changed his name and his birth certificate with nothing remaining to link him to his old self. The ACLU fought for him in court to make this all happen and hejust skipped out on his debts and nobody linked him to his old name. It's fucking insanity.
I wish every rapist got this kind of public shaming. But at least Turner will never be able to live in peace again.
I know right. Alot of people use the brock Turner case as proof that all rapist are hated and rape is taken seriously all the time. But the thing is brock Turner was just an outlier. Unlike him other rapists are still free walking in the street undetected not even on the registry. If it wasn't for the media hounding his ass, he would have continued this with other women. Brock Turner was a rich white boy he already gotten a short sentence because he was rich white boy with connections and without wide spread media coverage his daddy would have probably wiped his record clean.
Turner only became a pariah because his case was so heinous and he was obviously guilty (ie there was no way to argue he said, she said). If he had raped her in a dorm room instead of behind a dumpster, we likely wouldn't know his name
He’s only famous because people saw him commit the crime.
Yeah I’m confused why he is the one rapist anyone cares about. It’s so weird
I think its because he got off lightly despite being so obviously guilty. And I think the judge's reasoning ("his life shouldn't be ruined over ten minutes of action") was so insensitive and tone deaf that it caught everyone's attention
