"The entire incident was recorded on the Jail's video surveillance system."
This chilled my bones. I can not believe there was no guard monitoring the cameras within a jail. There is more to this case. The prisoner was booked for assault; leave him unshackled and around a vulnerable woman. It is as if the jailers did this intentionally.
''After having his mugshot taken and being fingerprinted last July, a new inmate at the Oklahoma County jail simply walked away from the booking area and raped another inmate awaiting her release, prosecutors allege. Danta Ramone Thomas, 44, of Oklahoma City, was charged Thursday with first-degree rape. Prosecutors allege in the case that the victim was handcuffed to a bar attached to a jail wall and "unable to escape his presence."''
How common is it for inmates to be left unsupervised while handcuffed, during booking? This all sounds shonky.
This is the 2nd headline like this from that particular jail this week. People apparently (rumored) take cops after them on a chase to another county before stopping so they get booked in a different jail.
I am stunned. Speechless.
