Metropolitan Police officers joked about raping women, beating up their partners and killing black children, a damning report by the police watchdog has found.
Appalling messages shared on social media by officers mainly based at Charing Cross Police station in central London, reveals evidence of violent misogyny, racism and bullying within the ranks.
Nine linked investigations were launched by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) in 2018 following reports that a police officer had sex with a drunk person at a police station.
The investigations focused on teams formed to tackle crime and disorder in the Westminster area and were expanded after officers came forward to report concerns about the conduct of colleagues.
Dozens of extremely offensive messages that had been shared between serving police officers were discovered including ones in which colleagues joked about rape and domestic violence.
There were also messages that were deeply racist and homophobic in nature.
'Officers dismiss messages as 'laddish banter'' In one message an officer wrote on WhatsApp: "I would happily rape you", while another officer was referred to as "mcrapey raperson".
Another wrote: "Getting a woman into bed is like spreading butter. It can be done with a credit card but it's quicker and easier to use a knife."
Another officer wrote: "If I was single I would happily chloroform you."
In further exchange an officer wrote: "My dad kidnapped some African children and used them to make dog food."
Many messages shared, made references to domestic violence including one which read: "And my bird won't stop taking the p***. Swear to got [sic] I'm going to smack her."
When challenged many of the officers dismissed the exchanges as "laddish banter " but the IOPC said it was deeply worrying.
Of the 14 officers investigated, two were dismissed for gross misconduct and put on the barred list, preventing future employment with the police, while another two resigned and several others faced disciplinary action, the IOPC said.
The report comes as the Met is still reeling from the fallout following the kidnap, rape and murder of Sarah Everard by serving officer, Wayne Couzens.
Metropolitan Police officers 'joked about raping wives and black babies dying', watchdog finds The murder and subsequent investigation in the Sarah Everard case has come to be seen as a watershed moment for the force CREDIT: METROPOLITAN POLICE /via REUTERS The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) made 15 recommendations to the force to tackle "underlying cultural issues".
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said he was "utterly disgusted" by the findings.
He said: "The conduct of these officers was totally unacceptable and what has been revealed by these investigations will only further damage public trust and confidence in the police."
"Anyone found to be responsible for sexism, racism, misogyny, Islamophobia, antisemitism, bullying or harassment does not deserve to wear the Met uniform and must be rooted out."
"The Met has set out the immediate action it is taking to rebuild public trust and confidence, and I want to assure Londoners that I will continue to hold the Met to account on delivering these commitments so that we see the changes needed and the public deserve."
The Metropolitan Police said the force is "deeply sorry" after the police watchdog found evidence of bullying, racism and misogyny among a team of officers at Charing Cross police station in central London.
While the team at Charing Cross has now been disbanded, the IOPC said they had still found evidence of similar behaviour in subsequent investigations.
The report went on: "We believe these incidents are not isolated or simply the behaviour of a few bad apples."
A Met statement said: "The conduct of a team of officers at Charing Cross police station in central London does not represent the values of the Metropolitan Police Service."
"We are deeply sorry to Londoners and everyone they have failed with their appalling conduct and acknowledge how this will damage the trust and confidence of many in the Met."
"Since this reprehensible behaviour was uncovered in 2017 we have taken a series of measures to hold those responsible to account and stamp out unacceptable behaviour."
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Bas Javid said: "I am angry and disappointed to see officers involved in sharing sexist, racist and discriminatory messages. It's clear we have a lot of work to do to ensure bullying and discrimination does not exist in any part of the Met.
"The actions of these officers between 2016 and 2018 were unacceptable, unprofessional, disrespectful and deeply offensive. I read their messages with increasing disgust and shame."
"We haven't waited for the IOPC's report to take action - a number of officers have been subject to misconduct proceedings, including one officer dismissed and one who would have been dismissed had he not already resigned. Every Met employee has also been spoken to about responsible use of social media."
"We recognise that there is need for real change in the Met and we are committed to creating an environment that is even more intolerant to those who do not uphold the high values and standards expected of us."

After reading this, its no surprise that the UK cops have a shit track record when it comes to solving real crimes. But they immediately turn into the Justice League the moment some man in a dress demands that they arrest some middle aged housewife for calling him "sir" on Twitter
Or arrest a disabled woman for posting stickers with statistics on male violence, and then turf her out on the streets in the early hours of the morning to travel home in a mobility scooter.
Fuck, I forgot about this.
We're in the death spiral as a civilization. Every year, it becomes clearer to me that there is no saving this.
Why are we allowing males into positions of any kind of power at all? It does not end well. This consistently happens. Why is it still even being entertained?
Who else?
You might say women, and yes, women can and should be in positions of power. But women are just 50% of the population. How would you possibly find enough people to fill in every role of power if you throw out 50% of the population?
I mean 50% of people aren’t in power. It’s like 1%. We can definitely choose from just women to fill that 1%
As a young woman living in Britain , I’m now terrified of the police. I don’t trust them, I find they put all their efforts into twitter and not enough effort in controlling their own behaviour. Men will say this is just “banter” if that is the case then men shouldn’t hold positions of power.
Fucking pigs. Men should not be allowed to hold positions of power and authority. They only use it for evil.
Absolutely sickening. And people wonder why women don't come forward when they've been raped. How are we supposed to trust these pigs to investigate cases of sexual assault?
