I don’t support vigilantism, but the current system seems to have failed women and children in every way in every country, so if some men choose to police their own, it’s hard for me to be one hundred percent against that. I would be extremely concerned about them getting the wrong person, though.
This is probably one of the most socially beneficial outlets for violent men with hero complexes.
It’s the accepted group for men to be violent against. They used to do this to racial minorities but now people don’t like that.
I don’t care if a pedo gets hurt. I just find it rich given most men are somewhat pedophilic.
While I wouldn't engage in vigilantism, how exactly am I supposed to care about pedophiles getting attacked? I can't believe the NYTimes spent this kind of high expense production and reporting to profile pedophile hunters as if they are the problem? I was expecting the article to show that a large amount of men had been wrongly accused and killed by mistaken identity, but funnily, the men attacked by the pedo hunters all decided not to press charges. Hmmm...wonder why.
They can't give Kara Dansky even a small letter to the editor spot, but they go all out on the poor pedos who are getting scared by the burly mens. So what if violent men go after the scum of all men?
You're right, if they didn't bother to bring charges, they probably were guilty. I do think a lot of vigilantism is fueled by male violence tho.

That is definitely eye-raising.
Personally, though, I’ve always wondered why it’s on the victim (using this term lightly here) of an attack to press charges. If a crime has been committed, shouldn’t the police be the ones to press charges, whether or not the victim wants to go after the perpetrator? Because the police ostensibly are there to prevent (further) crime.
Technically, it's not up to the victim. That's why criminal cases are the "people" vs. the defendant and why, while the victim usually gets an opportunity to put in their two cents about sentencing, they don't get to make that decision.
That said, if the victim won't press charges, then that implies the victim won't cooperate with the investigation or prosecution, so the state pressing charges would likely wind up being a waste of time.
I see. I suppose that makes sense.
Not sure how it works in New York, but in my neck of the woods the State presses charges. The DA may be exercising their discretion and the police love to see pedos get their asses kicked.
