Other ViolencePolice violence is male violence
Posted October 28, 2020 by MelMarieCurebee in NameTheProblem

40% of the police in the US, or more, are domestic abusers. Most of the police in the US are men. When we protest police violence, we are protesting male violence. The same goes for SARS. Bands of men given weapons and legal authority with no accountability? What could possibly go wrong...

I think part of naming the problem on this issue is for feminists to recognize that the police have never really been there to protect women, in most/many countries. Crimes that mostly only women experience, like sexual assault, harassment, etc, are generally ignored. Property crimes and other crimes women are equally susceptible to like men are, are also frequently ignored. The only crimes that are actually policed are the ones that mostly only men participate in. Drug crimes, violent crimes against strangers, murders, etc. (While women are mostly murdered by men, men are more likely to attack other strangers who are men than they are women). Edit: police will control women's behavior in particular ways, like enforcing anti-prostitution laws by arresting prostitutes instead of johns, and by arresting topless women even when the law allows women to go topless, for example.

Police brutality is a male violence problem and I don't think we can fix police brutality while also maintaining police forces that are predominantly male.

First I want to say this is not a romance novel the romance part is very minimal

Oh thank goodness! Romance just isn't my genre and the description made it sound like something I would like until it got to the romance part. I don't know much about Norse mythology (my "world mythology" phase growing up had me dabbling in all sorts of myths, but mostly Greek/Roman, Japanese, various African countries', Irish, British, and various Native American tribes' myths were the ones I really dove into, which ended with me learning everything I could about them, though I've probably forgotten a lot by now. I still really like myths and legends even now, though I'm not completely obsessed with them anymore like I used to be.) but if that doesn't get in the way of me understanding the story I'd love to give it a try!

I'll put it on my "To Read" list and see if my library has it. Thanks for the recommendation!

I started the book and it's great. I remember the story from Neil Gaiman's Norse Mythology book.
