Is ovarit being canceled by Peter Lowe (whoever that is)?
Posted October 4, 2024 by [Deleted] in Ovarit

I could use some of my STEM sisters knowledge on this. First off, I wanted to delete my account but the autofill for my password was wrong. This makes NO sense to me. I have not changed my password, so how did the one I save become magically wrong? So then I logged out to request a password change, which I did. When I changed it and tried to log back in I got this message/warning: "Ublock origin has prevented the page from loading. Because of following filter l lawstrack.me"

"Found in Peter Lowe's Ad and tracking server list"

So this guy is blocking Ovarit. I this dude canceling Ovarit? Censorship? What do you make of this? Do we need a letter writing campaign to this twit? Is this TRA BS striking again or am I just paranoid?

Ovarit has had a long-standing issue where password autofills on the login page in Firefox aren't recognized unless you also click on the form field it's autofilling. I'm not sure if that's exactly what's happening here, but it's a possibility.

I am not seeing Ovarit in Peter Lowe's tracking list directly, and I haven't run into any issues with accessing Ovarit. However, awstrack.me - which I believe is what triggered adblock in this situation, based on the error message you showed - is listed on there.

That tracker belongs to Amazon Web Services and appears on a lot of websites that are hosted there. I'm unclear exactly why this triggered on Ovarit, but my suspicion is that the link you used to log in wasn't clean in some way.

Thanks to some additional information provided by /u/tuff_terfies in the comments, I was able to replicate this by sending myself a password reset email. It looks like any emails from Ovarit servers have links wrapped with awstrack.me, which then hit Adblock. This is probably a configuration issue on whatever is hosting those email servers. Anything hosted by AWS runs into this issue if you don't explicitly turn it off.

tl;dr there's nothing for OP to worry about, but Ovarit staff should probably look into reconfiguring this to avoid confusion.

Ovarit is not on "Peter Lowe's Ad and tracking server list" in Ublock origin.

You can see the list here and search for Ovarit and it won't be there. https://pgl.yoyo.org/adservers/serverlist.php?showintro=0;hostformat=hosts

I have the screenshot. All I did was click the reset password link from my email sent by ovarit and that page popped up to stop me from going to ovarit. any idea why?
