I know this isn’t the point, but does anyone know anything about the art used to make this? It’s really beautiful.
It's an illuminated manuscript from the Middle Ages. This is the "Circumcision of Abraham" from the bible of Jean de Sy (14th c. French): https://picryl.com/media/circumcision-of-abraham-bible-of-jean-de-sy-08581b
I find them very beautiful, too. The Books of Hours (prayer books) tend to be less gruesome than the bibles. Here's a famous one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Très_Riches_Heures_du_Duc_de_Berry
They're called "illuminated" manuscripts because the gold you see is really gold leaf!
Thank you! I knew it was medieval and illuminated but had no idea where to go looking for it. Check out the decorative elements. And that carnelian red-orange of the wings and shoes. The depth of the blues. It knocked my socks off. Thank you for the links.
Just watched a video about Pohnpei which ended with the story of a guy who ripped his genitalia off by using a palm tree as a catapult.
Woah! That takes balls, literally. Lol.
Thanks for the video! I love fall of civilizations stuff!
I think the better caption would be "make sure to get ALL of it!"
