Um, so ya girl sylviasmushrooms here may or may not have been playing The Unknown’s cheerleader iteration, and putting the trans flag charm on all of its meathooks because I find all of this just hilarious. 😛

The Unknown’s “girl voice” also sounds like a typical TIM falsetto, which confuses me since I looked up the VA on YouTube and he seems capable of a far more convincing “girl voice” (though it sounds like he’s straining hard to achieve it.) People have pointed out, rightly, that NDAs are a big deal in the world of video game voice-acting and people only usually get vague descriptions when they audition for roles. This is one of many skins that are of both gender presentations; there is also an old lady with garden shears and a barbecue dude, in addition to the default one that looks like Dwight.

Overall I think most of the DBD community, barring a few handmaidens, are of the opinion that this is a pretty big and shameless reach and someone who got PAID for services rendered is trying to ruin a great update by being vain and himself pretty hecking transphobic. He saw a literal monster in a skirt and thought, “that’s a-me! Mario!”

I also have a sneaking suspicion, based on the VAs personal style, that the companion survivor in the release smacked him where it hurt. Sable is a silver-haired and VERY beautifully designed goth girl with a sweet, clearly female voice. EVERYONE is in love with Sable, and honestly she’s as close as DBD will ever come to every TIM’s aspirational fantasy of being the anime goth gf, uwu.

I said this in the other post about this, but his implosion and walking it back in a desperate attempt to save his career has been super funny. And BHVR would be well within their rights to recast the role, unceremoniously remove his voice credit, and release a redub in a patch. Ungrateful, vain grifters aren’t worth working with, and TIMs especially are just never fucking happy, whether a character “looks trans” or not it will never live up to their entitled ideal.

I don't play this game, but I'm willing to bet that they were trying to pander to the trans crowd as all game devs do, and it backfired spectacularly.

I have no idea why, though. First of all, this character dresses better and is more feminine than most TIMs. Secondly, absolutely no one who didn't already think of trans dudes as ugly men in dresses was going to make this connection. It's not like the character is canonically trans.

He also provided the male lines--says so in his statement.

And you really have to be into video games to recognize the voice actors. Is he really having this issue? It's probably just people he already knew. I mean, i can only think i'd be happy to meet John Cleese who voices Sir Cadwell in ESO, but i already knew who he was when he got the role. Though, dang if i could pick him out in a crowd.

that guy’s ramble about how he had no idea until now sounds fake… i know that can happen with VAs where they don’t know what they’re voicing, but there’s like, no sense of urgency in how he feels “so attacked.” it sounds like a marketing ploy he’s in on if anything like to get more people talking about the game
