Veterinary Careers?

I have a degree in English (haha I know) but am looking at possibly getting an associates in veterinary services. I'm hoping to become certified in my state as well. I have a few questions...

Is the pay a living wage in your area?
What do hours typically look like?
Had anyone here transitioned from vet tech to a phd in veterinary medicine? If so, was it worth it?
If you are/were a vet tech, how much do you do euthanasia services? (This would be the most difficult thing for me...)
Is your workplace predominantly male or female?
