My medical program recently started (keeping what type vague for anonymity reasons).
I am seriously disturbed by what I see as the erasure of biological sex in my program. All forms I filled out for the program asked for gender. Genders that were included were male and female but we know male and female are sex based terms.
In my courses the professors (which include MDs and phds) have stated we must accept people's self identification. Almost all my professors say gender in the place of sex (they will apologize if they mention sex based terms).
While the professors have not stated this explicitly, I am sure this means medically treating said patients how they self identify. A TIF would be treated like they have the same BP as a male (among other things).
How is this not considered obvious medical malpractice. Females and males have different medical baselines and needs. Not discrimination, just pure science.
Advice because I'm not sure how to navigate this as I go through my med program and begin to treat patients.
I've been thinking a lot about how literacy disappeared in Europe after the fall of the Roman Empire during the so-called 'dark ages.' I'm starting to understand how that could happen. And believe it's happening again.
In the United States, literacy is embarrassingly low. Only 6 kids out of the 19 in my son's class are reading at or above grade level. WTF
I've been wrong on the internet before. And when I have been wrong on the internet I either delete my original post in shame or I admit to being wrong. What I don't do is steal jokes from 2020 Twitter to try and excuse it and then write huge walls of text in the comments with additional excuses that surprisingly don't come right out and say their favorite word "neurospicy" but definitely implying it.
And this is a mental impairment they gave themselves from spending hours and hours every single day at all times doomscrolling and immersing themselves in the corners of hypervalidation of anything that might make them more interesting than typical white male with a computer science degree.
They're really just know it alls
Oh my sweet summer child. Grammar is the only way you’ll ever make yourself understood. Otherwise all you have is a collection of words with no relationship to each other.
How do you expect anyone to understand the gab you just wrote? Do you think you’re not using grammar right now, as you write each word? You’re replicating society’s violent word phobic grammar rules 😱. Perhaps you need to unlearn your grammar nazism to really be free. Fascist. Do better!
Anything if it means no more utter claptrap like what we just had to read.
Sounds like a modern-day Humpty Dumpty: “When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean – neither more nor less.” “The question is,” said Alice, “whether you can make words mean so many different things.” “The question is,” said Humpty Dumpty, “which is to be master——that's all."
Posts confidently about a topic yet doesn’t know anything about it - clearly a dude.
Genuinely deserves to be jobless. Can't imagine what sort of work this person puts out, or that they're capable of logical thought at all.
Can't use language properly, yet can't shut up. I'm glad I don't teach freshman comp anymore.
Finnigan's Wake made more sense than this dumb shit lol
rubs temples So I don't expect most people to recite the definition of a vowel off of the top of their head. But what a weird fucking mindset. A vowel is an open-mouthed sound, to contrast with a consonant that uses some part of the mouth/throat to restrict airflow. It's a distinction that's useful if you work in speech therapies, linguistics, singing, and I'm sure a lot of other things. And this person is like "nah, that's not what a vowel feels like to me"
Men are women. Vowels are consonants. Language is violence. War is peace. Slavery is freedom. I am tired.
In the first year of school kids (here) learn that vowels are the letters you can sing. It's a simple, effective way of recognizing vowels from consonants, and really all you need to understand vowels, if you aren't outright taking a major in linguistics or something. This idiot just never bothered to learn the difference between vowels and consonants and can't admit he was wrong.
The last part just sounds like my students when they are annoyed a language doesn't come to them immediately... "Who made up these rules?? This is a shitty language, who made it up??" It's a long and ongoing process with no one person sitting in their evil language lair thinking up rules to annoy people.
But Alphabet song
You are talking about their assigned names, what I mean is that we sing their essence. Their true sound! The Alphabet song is just bigoted.
