doesn’t matter the species, females are ALWAYS dealing with male bullshit

I think I’m starting to understand the hardcore radfems that advocate for complete female separatism

Female dragonflies will also often play dead to avoid male harassment. And female sharks have been known to eat male sharks who bother them. Nature is based.

“The males are willing to mate with pretty much anything," Falk said. "There's videos of males trying to mate with a lump in a tree.”

Life imitates life lol.

Totally off-topic: I want to hold a hummingbird in my hand. The nearest I come is when they stand in the air a few feet from me to tell me the feeder needs changing.

I’ve given one baths. They’re very bold. I didn’t understand what she wanted at first, she was hovering around me while I watered plants. Eventually while I was watering some hens-and-chicks I stood very still and she got right into the puddle in the plant under the spray and washed herself. Pretty much made my life. Apparently they love running water.

I hate you I hate you I hate you!

Seriously, that's a wonderful thing to happen to anyone. I wish we could have a water feature; friends have one and tell me all the birds love it, including hummingbirds. But we live in a condo with a deck so I don't think it's possible for us to have one.

Hmm, seems like humans have more in common with hummingbirds than we think.

yup.

I have a lot of hummingbird visitors for the summer. The males are brutal to one another! The females usually sneak around to the feeder in a shy way, at odd times of the day (5:00 am).

I only ever see female hummingbirds, which is fine by me, but it does make me wonder why. I don't have hummingbird feeders, just a ton of salvia and Mexican sunflower. Maybe the males are always at the feeders so females will get their food from flowers just to spare themselves the drama? 🤔

the males and females of many species will live in different territories for most of their lives. The females go off to their own territories to nest, raise young and live in peace. They only meet together for mating, during which the males become more aggressive as they compete for access to the female, in the same way that they might compete over food. :<<

According to Falk, only about 20 percent of female White-necked Jacobins engage in this behavior. It’s likely they will continue to be a minority. That’s because, if less aggressive females adopt the brighter colors, which typically signals aggressive behavior, the meaning of the colors change. Once the meaning changes, there is no benefit in the females changing to the flashy colors. It puts them at risk, as it is easier to spot them hiding with their young.

Brings to memory the story of TIF realising her bf watches straight porn etc. What if the trans craze stops only once TIFs get hunted en masse.
