This is about extreme metal bands but let's be honest it filters into everything men do right? They are homoerotic as fuck... if a man joins a band to try and get laid that's one thing..but the only ones they really care about impressing at the end of the day are other men because the only opinions they value are other men's .. that's my take on this and the phenomenon in general

Also interesting that it's straight men in particular they want to impress. If I'm being honest, I think a lot of straight men don't consider gay men as "real men." They have a similar status in their minds to that of a woman. Which is to say, not a very high status

Also how often do you hear men denigrating something because it's "for chicks." if something is only able to impress women then they think it's bad.

The only reason men are so obsessed with “getting laid” is to impress other men anyway.

This reminds me of a study on capsaicin in food. Men want to be perceived as loving very hot food or having a high tolerance to it. However, the study showed that women were the ones who actually enjoy hot/spicy foods more. The men are fronting 🌶️😂

LOL! This reminds me of my ex and the time he insisted on ordering his kung pao chicken "spicy hot," which was the highest "hot" level on the menu. I watched him sit there chewing and sweating, trying to manfully stick it out, until at last he had to give up and admit the food was too hot for him. He refused to order anything else, complained about being hungry while I finished my meal, and sulked for the rest of the day.

Well no shit, most people that play extreme metal like their riff salad circle jerk to see who can shred the best. As a metalhead who has been playing guitar for a while, I too like my riff salad. But yeah it's definitely a male dominant genre. But damn it's fun to out shred guys when you're a woman in metal.

Please link some of your music if you can I'm always looking for good female guitarist. Or PM me if you don't want to out yourself as a terf

Not really surprising when you think about fancy cars, bodybuilding, and other such "extremes" - meaning, they're the extreme representation of otherwise normal behaviours and interests, in this case cars, fitness, and rock music. It's not enough to like cars, they have to buy the fastest and most expensive car; not enough to take care of their body, they have to look like unrealistic, oiled up, plastic versions of Schwarzenegger; not enough to play in a rock band, they have to prove that they can cram 83362 notes per minute in a guitar solo. Not sure if it's just straight men doing this though (maybe in the case of heavy metal it is, I don't know), I think it goes back to the old "my dick bigger than yours hurr durr".

There’s a big gay fitness community, but I don’t think sexuality takes precedent in enjoying things like body building. Sure for gay men there’s the obvious fact that they like to look good for each other, but as someone into fitness myself, not competitive level tbf, it’s really a personal thing to see how intensely you can push your body.

One of the most peculiar things about almost everything you named, heavy metal, bodybuilding, maybe not cars but definitely motorcycle culture, are all straight man masculinity contests now but owe a fuck ton to gay male subcultures. Its like gay mens world is a breeder reactor for masculinity insecurities, and then somehow straight men see it and think they have to one up the insanity lest they are less than f*gs. I think you might be seeing this now with drag & gay male effeminacy blowing up in pop culture and trans becoming so popular for demographics that didnt use to transition as much, like young straight men.

For men everything is a dick measuring contest because only men’s opinions are valued. It’s the same for how many women they can get laid, not because they care about having genuine relationships, but the numbers they can brag to other men.

Men have hobbies and interests that impress other men.

Women have hobbies and interests that impress other women.

Is this really news?

Is it homoerotic when women have makeup YouTube channels that have largely female followings?

I really don’t like equating male friendship to homoeroticism. Not that there’s anything wrong with being gay, but I think men often alienate themselves from other men with which they could have healthy friendships in fear of being called gay and here we are perpetuating that.

People even do it with kids like that Pixar movie Luca. Saying it had gay undertones because there were two young boys who were friends.

Women are still MOST focused on impressing men. Men give zero shits about impressing women. At all.

This is a problem because most people are heterosexual and this is a horrible setup for relationships. Men should be impressing women first and foremost.

Okay, that’s a way I hadn’t thought of it. But I think metal guitar is a weird subject to try to make that argument. The people who enjoy and play metal are mainly men.

Idk as a straight woman, men’s hobbies aren’t generally what attract me. I’m into their character, ambition and whether they take care of themselves. It’s a nice bonus if he’s into something I find interesting too, but I’m just glad he has hobbies in general and friends.

And I think the argument could be made in reverse, shouldn’t women find more enjoyment in things that aren’t solely to impress men?

Yes, women should. That argument is made all the time and I support it.

I wish more metal artists were women. Women actually have revenge fantasies that make sense and are just and would be great lyrically. When I’m pissed and want to listen to metal, I always get the wind taken out of my sails because male metal is just another form of male whining about their self-inflicted “problems.” I need actual rage with a real source!

I think it was more than that. I've seen Luca. it doesnt need to be read that way but I could actually totally see young gay boys finding comfort in that movie, or even young lesbians. the literal "fish out of water" bit sort of helps that along.

HOWEVER, the TQ+s think every disney movie is queer coded or something now so they always take every little thing too far

HOWEVER, the TQ+s think every disney movie is queer coded or something now so they always take every little thing too far

I mean, they're getting pandered to with stories like this + the inherent narcissism, I get how they land there.

A Disney executive vowed more inclusivity in its productions — as the entertainment giant works to make underrepresented groups, such as racial minorities and the LGBTQ community, account for at least 50 percent of its regular characters by the end of the year.

Karey Burke, president of Disney’s General Entertainment Content, said the company must do more to make its content more inclusive in a company-wide Zoom call Monday that was later posted to Twitter.

“I’m here as a mother of two queer children, actually,” Burke said on the call. “One transgender child and one pansexual child, and also as a leader.”

Burke said she supports featuring “many, many” characters who are LGBTQIA, which stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (or questioning), intersex, and asexual (or allies).

Well yeah if you intentionally go looking for “queer coded” characters in literally anything you’re going to find them because the term is so ambiguous and stupid.

I remember once reading a study that reached precisely the same conclusion about hot pepper eating contests—Boys don't even necessarily like inferno-level capsaicin, they're just there to try to impress randos. Women, on the other hand, enter those contests if and only if they have that little micro-insanity for spicing their food up to a million zillion Scoville units.

Research was needed to find out that men are motivated to achieve in metal rock music - and all other fields - mainly to impress other men? This is as pointless as doing research to investigate whether the sky is blue, the sun is hot, water is wet, ice is cold.

Yeah but it's just how they socialize or whatever. Was the assumption that they do it for women? Because we knew this already lol. There are things women do to connect and impress other women that aren't connected to men at all either. Making and selling yarn craft patterns seems to be one, and just as there's a few men knitting out here, there's also female shredmasters

Not a surprise. Have you ever seen that video of musk oxen in a headbutting contest? The same.
